silver jubilee

Re: silver jubilee

Less gain than SLX and DR. It is basically a 2203/2204 JCM800 with one extra gain stage built in. One of the nice things about it is the tone controls really work well, and it's tonal focus is slightly lower down in the frequancy spectrum. Think Slash and Black Crows type sound. You can push the power amp better too, because it's not the loudest Marshall ever (but it's still a Marshall). You can also 1/2 the power if needed. This allows you to combine real output stage drive with the higher gain pre-amp. Nice amps.....

Where's GJ when you need him. I can tell you this, the SJ is the sweetest sounding non-modded Marshall that I have heard. It has two channels, not sure about the diode clipping. IMO, diode clipping is not bad...and if the SJ has it, it's FANTASTIC.

Re: silver jubilee

They have enough gain to have nice heavy palm muted chunk, and singing leads. The diode clipping circuit just sounds like a good OD in front of a JCM800. I've heard ones that sound great and ones that don't, but it's solely dependent on the quality of tubes you use. I have a 2550 fullsize 50W fullstack, which Jeff H heard. It's an amazing sounding Marshall that I mostly keep as a fun investment. Mine has JJ E-34L's and Sovtek 12AX7LPS, and it sounds better than it would have new in 87. The Silvers are really skyrocketing in value, so I'm hanging onto mine, but you can still find them used. They also made black Jubilees in 88/89, and the black Slash 2555 in 96.
