Silverface Bassman Heads

Hey all,

There are lots of these for sale on ebay. I know that Kevlar got one recently. How versatile are they? Do they have reverb? What about effects loops?

Re: Silverface Bassman Heads

They are a very basic amp, Volume, Treble, Bass on two channels. No verb or FX loops, but it takes pedals very well. Mine is an early 68, the chassis is stamped 67, so it is a Blackface in silver duds. There is a lot of variance between circuits, mine is an AB165... In terms of modern versalility, this amp has none. In terms of tone, touch, nuance, and flat out balls, this amp is amazing. Better than I thought it would be. The bass channel overdrive is so fat and lush, really inspiring sound!

Re: Silverface Bassman Heads

Although this may not answer your question- I had (IIRC) a 64 and a 65 blackface Bassman. I really didn't like them. There was none of the "in between" breakup- they went from clean to loud clean to loud, compressed overdrive. I had an attenuator that didn't matter because it was a squashed mess of OD.

I used to have a later silverface Bassman 70 head and 2x12, very loud and very clear tone. Another one I should have kept!! :smack:
