well, my uncle came over today and he said a friend(i know the guy) has a silvertone 1484 amp head and a 2x12 cab, he said he would sell it to me for 200$, it is a vintage 1960 something, it is original and not reissue, the tubes have been replaced a bunch of times, the tubes are 6L6's.

i have as much time as i want to buy it, because he's not openly selling it, he's only gonna sell it to me.

should i get it? the HC reviews are almost all good, what are your opinions

Re: silvertone amp

$200 bucks for a vintage tube amp and 2X12 cab, umm, yea why not? maybe try to look one up on ebay, so if uy cant sell it u could at least make some $$ and split it with the guy who sold it to you?

Re: silvertone amp

i seen em goin for about 300$ on ebay american, i am only paying 200$ canadian, i am gonna buy it.

Re: silvertone amp

That's a Silvertone Twin Twelve. I have one myself. Two 6L6 tubes but not more than 25 or so watts.

Very rootsy swampy bluesy sounding amp. They are cool point to point wired amps and if you're lucky you'll find a pair Jensen C12Q's or similar speakers in there.

My brother Bruce rebuilds those into Tone Monsters!

Steve Stills uses a Twin Twelve sometimes.

( They are legendary for having Cool Tremolo but Truly Terrible reverb! :laugh2: )

Re: silvertone amp

lol i heard the exact same thing about the tremolo and reverb, and yes it is a a twin twelve, i haven't had the chance to play it.....yet :13: its sounding like a damn good deal, 2 questions how do they accept pedals, and what does your brother do to these amps?, oh and i believe it has 4 6L6's not 2 i could be wrong and the amp model is a silvertone 1484 i do believe.

Re: silvertone amp

great amps!

as Lew suggested, if it has original Jensen speakers, the price is worth it, almost for the speakers alone

the weak spot sometimes is the transformers

I agree, they have a great, raw blues tone

Re: silvertone amp

I have owned a 1484 and still have a 1483. Great amps.. Head and cab for 200.00 is something I would jump on. These are starting to fetch some serious cash on ebay. ( you can thank the White Stripes for that) These amps are plenty loud and have serious old school grind. They match up with a drum kit perfectly for live playing. If you hit my link my tune Fat JoJo is done with the 1483. I also have a short clip with the 1484 on there too.

Re: silvertone amp

I had one like that one that was a combo and the 1x12 BASS version. Lew is right the reverb is a jokje the trem is cool but the amps kick ass...It's WELL worth $200.00...if you get it and don'e like it you could sell it for a small profit. I love them and I wish I had never sold mine (any of the 3 of them!). I say do it!

Re: silvertone amp

Heads and matching cabs in exc shape have been pushing 600.00 on ebay. The last 1483 head ( no cab) in good shape went for 345.00. These are only gonna go up in value cause they flat out rock. That is one to jump on and take care of. Folks can't afford Plexi's anymore so they gotta chase something.

wow really?, 345$ for the head alone and around 600 for a head and cab.....
there is no doubt in my mind now that this is a sweet deal :)

Re: silvertone amp
