silvertone lap steel

Restringing this for my uncle. Anyone know what string gauges to use? My uncle doesn't know and I'm unfamiliar with this type of guitar. Thickest string (Low E?) is 1/16" and fourth thickest string (G?) is approx 1/32". Strings are much thicker than what I was going to replace them with.

Guitar is tuned:

Bb
C#
Eb
G
Bb
Eb

Thanks!

That tuning doesn't make much sense. Are you sure that's correct? Starting with Bb or Eb as the low end, I can't figure it out.

Re: silvertone lap steel

Bb is the low end. According to the enclosed manual from low (thickest string) to high, guitar should be tuned:

B
D
E
G#
B (this is half step down from middle C on a piano)
E

Figured it was tuned down a 1/2 step. Manual refers to the guitar as both the steel guitar and hawaiian guitar.

Wow.... that's a really goofy tuning. I'm just getting into the world of lap steel and open tunings, at least ones that I didn't make up.

Anyway, for that tuning, I'd say start with a 13 set, maybe with a heavier string for that low B. Now, I'm gonna have to try out that tuning, as it seems intriguing :)

Good luck!
