Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Just want to confirm if my wiring diag will work?
I am hopeless with electronics and I can't seem to find a diag online that uses SPST switches. They always seem to specify DPST but I don't see why it won't work with SPST.
It is just a std strat with just master Vol and master Tone and 3 on-off rocker switches for each pickup.
Thx for any help.my 3 switch wiring diagram.jpg

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Bridging the hot of all the pickups across to the volume makes them all always on, and it appears the switches ground them out. Is that how you intend it to work? Problem I see is that since all pickup hots are bridged together, as soon as you ground out one switch, the whole works would be grounded out and shut off all the sound. Unless I'm missing something. Maybe the drawing is overly simplistic for what's actually being wired.

Thanks.
As I said, I'm hopeless at this stuff.
I just want each switch to turn each pickup on or off. Pretty basic stuff :)
Is this diag any better

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

No, you need to have the pickups connected only when the switch activates it. Drop the connection to the tone control

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Ok, but how do I include the tone control?
Vol first lug to tone first lug?

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Actually on second thought yours might work........but its easier to have 1 connection from the vol pot lug after the switches anyhow.
Attached to the same lug as the switches and you get tone that will darken with volume rolloff.
Attached to the same lug that goes to the jack and it stays bright(er) as you roll volume down.

OK. Thanks again.
Is this what you mean for the brightening version?

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

You have no lugs in your diagram, so here is one comparing the two. Modern gets dark, 50's wiring retains the treble.

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Is it easier to ask what I need to change in this diag to use NO-OFF switches instead of ON-ON switches?

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Thats almost it with no changes....except that the wire from the tone pot goes to the middle volume lug.

Technically too you could drop the top wire from all the switches that goes to the back of the tone pot....

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

Oh?
But that is exactly what I drew in my last diag
I have to drop the wire going from the switches to the back of the tone pot because that connection doesn't exist on an SPST switch.
Well we got there in the end.
Thx.

You had no pot lugs on your diagram.....so it was hard to tell without guessing if you'd got that bit of it right.

My Jimmy Vaughan Stratocaster Mod.

This is my idea of the perfect Strat configuration, and just wanted to post a some pics as a reference for others. When I thought of this I couldn't find a single pic of a Strat with 3 rocker switches. There were plenty with mini toggles but they seemed clumsy and messy looking to me, and didn't solve my main issues. I thought rocker switches would make for a neat, clean and very effective switching system.

I am one of those people that is always bumping the traditional 5 way switch and hitting the Volume knob, so moving the vol and replacing it with the low profile rockers solves all my problems. The individual rockers, also give me 7 pickup options and an all-off kill switch.

The pickguard was a custom job from Warmoth to which I added the square hole for the switches and the volume hole. The switches are easily found narrow, mini rockers (on-off). I knew I wanted only 1 Vol and 1 Tone in the lower positions and out of the way, so this left the perfect spot for the switches. Being so low profile they don't get in the way and yet are very easy to flip, one, two or even three at a time.

Re: Simple 3 Switch Wiring Diag Help

I can sww how this would work well for many people. It is similar to the Fender Elite Strats of the early 80s that used 3 small push/push buttons. Congrats on a unique idea that is neatly done, too!
