Simple, Heavy Amps

Re: Simple, Heavy Amps

heh, I did say high-gain but i've talked more about tone to Drew than anybody else on the forum, and his description of 'thick gain' is definitely a better description given that 'high-gain' is usually that tight crunchy metal LOG tone which isn't really what I'm going for.

Laney AOR or Marshall DSL50 seem like the closest to what i want for the least cash. I've always thought 5150's sound great but I gotta get an EL34 amp...the idea is to have a different flavor, not just a heavier one.

What about Soldano? Their reputation is quality but they're not that popular so i'm interested in how they stack up to the Oranges and Marshalls and Mesas...

well if you MUST get an amp that is el34 you wont be getting an orange. none of the ones you listed use el34.

soldanos are great amps. i'd take one over anything orange or marshall.

what cabinet are you using? much of the thickness/sound associated with orange amps is due to their amazing cabinets.

Re: Simple, Heavy Amps

Fender SuperTwin
Fender 400PS
Fender VibroKing

All of which are relatively simple, and very heavy.

hahahahahaha

KSMITH: I'm using a SUNN 4x12 for now that is going to be sold to a friend in a little bit here. When I get to Atlanta I'll be gettin a new 4x12 and I'm probably saving up for an Orange one...
