Hi, I'm new to these forums.
I have a basic humbucker install question: And maybe it is silly, but I'm hoping the solution is simple.
I have a new Ibanez AR-200. Great guitar, but of course I wanted to upgrade the pickups to seymour duncans.
I just got a SH-1n 59 model humbucker. I wanted to simply swap the stock humbucker in my Ibanez for this one.
The seymour duncan pickup has only one wire coming out--a metal braided silver one.
I opened up the back of the guitar and found the white wire from the neck pickup. And here is where I hesitate:
The white wire from the stock pickup splits in 2 directions--one to a connector on a pot, and the other to the pot itself. They appear to be 2 wires in one--as if the white wire has 2 wires inside, and one of those in the form of a shield within the white wire.
The Duncan 59 has only one wire, and the shielded exterior is not covered in rubber like in the stock pickup.
Question: do I solder the interior wire to the connector, and then leave it at that? Or do I also connect the exterior braided wire covering to something?
This might sound like a dumb question, but I honestly don't know what to do. The scematics that came with the pickup are totally unhelpful (they seem to be written for an electrician) and the Seymore Duncan website is not too clear on this question--including the quicktime movie which does not address this detail.
Any ideas?
