So I saw this video earlier

If you could only have one pedal

Tuner and reverb excluded

One pedal and only one

Which one

Single best pedal

First let's see what it would be

I am assuming this is going into a Fender or Roland type of amp that doesn't have its own gain, so for me, it would be a distortion. When I played in my late 80s band, the only thing I had on the floor was a DOD 250.

Boss BD-2. It works as a boost, does light overdrive, some rocking crunch, and can half-ass fuzz if you need it to. Not sure what category to put it in.

I voted "Wah." I can do most distortion or OD with careful manipulation of the volume, gain, and channel select of my amp. But wah, is a unique sound. Gotta have a circuit for that. And my AMT Optical Wah does it perfect.

Wah is a good choice also and my only pedal for years was a crybaby...but for me using the amp itself for gain, I would have to say delay too.

I feel with wah it's too easy to overuse it. (I'm reminded of one particular gig I attended where the guitar player used wah on every song except one -and the bass on that song had wah. Not to mention some very famous rockers who are well known for wah abuse.)

Delay gets a lot of use but seems to get more thought/planning put into its use...or maybe it's just a bit more subtle.

Delay. Almost a requirement for most music I've had to play over the last 20+ years. I can get better sounding distortion/gain off my amps; don't need a pedal for that.

Boss DC-2W, or, even better, a DC-2 with no headroom issues. It simply makes everything, clean as distortion, sound bigger and more interesting. A delay would probably be my second choice. There, I am not picky: any decent-quality digital delay will do.

I'm an idiot who didn't read the post before voting and didn't see that tuner was excluded, so I voted "other" because I was thinking "tuner".

My vote would have gone to overdrive had I read.

I hate to back-pedal, (pun intended), but I take delay for granted because it's built-in to my amp. It's on all the time. I use Wah maybe once a year. So I would probably re-vote delay.

I am a bit puzzled by all the OD/Dist voters. Sure, there are amps where you need a stomp box to provide (extra) distortion, but are there any tones that cannot be had by starting with the right amp?

Delay for sure, with overdrive a close second.

I use overdrive almost all the time, but I have way more fun with delay.
