Single bridge humbucker guitars?

There doesn't seem to be many single-bridge-pickup guitars. Squier did the "Hello Kitty". Peavey did the Rockmaster. I know I've seen others but can't find many online. Fender did the Esquire, but I'm thinking more in terms of a single humbucker. The reason I'm bringing this up is because I just installed my Custom Shop El Diablo into my Rockmaster tonight, and I'm loving it. It was too late for me to really wring it out, but what I've heard already, it needs something better than this Rockmaster. Don't get me wrong. I love my Rockmaster if just for its simplicity. Bridge pup, Volume, tone, hardtail. Period. But it is a "cheap" guitar. The El Diablo deserves better.

So, what are some single-bridge-humbucker guitars these days? I like the Stratocaster form factor, but I'm open to anything. I suppose I could put this into my Schecter Blackjack, but then I'd need to find a matching neck pup, and I'd lose the "clean & simple" factor.

Sorry if I'm rambling. This is my late-night, "I can't sleep because of a nasty cold" thread. But I do mean it as a serious question.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Sweet! I was just checking ESP's website and didn't see this.

The only potential problem with that is the direct mount. The El Diablo is a bit larger than normal. I'd have to route out a bit of that cool body paint & wood.

I really like the M. It has near perfect specs for me except that I imagine the Floyd is an OFR-1000 and not a MIG unit.
The neck width/depth/carve suite me well and I'd love a neck-thru maple/alder/ebony with the Black Winter.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Yeah. The inclusion of the Black Winter almost makes it an axe you'd want to leave alone. On the bright side, I forgot all about one of my all time favorites. The old USA Peavey Patriot. I have three or four of these laying around here somewhere.

ESP is popping up a lot. :D

I like that. Hate the upside-down headstock. But that isn't a show stopper. And, it uses a mounting ring, which would hide the routing for the larger Diablo.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

You could always find a Kramer Baretta or Focus 1000 on eBay and restore it...

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Hmm. I'll have to "google" those. Not sure what they are.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I agree with Gtrjunior-buy something from the 80s and fix it up If it needs it. I am a huge fan of Charvel model 1/2, Kramer F1000, BC Rich Gunslinger (tricky to find), Fender HM strat or any other single pickup guitar from that era.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I'd probably just buy a strat neck and body off ebay, good quality (Fender, Warmoth, etc) but cheap as I can. New pickguard. Boom... 1 humbucker guitar.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

OMG! That's sweet. Is that a current model?

It's 80's model IIRC, there are a few of them in Poland, because for the last couple of yours there is a big trend in old MIJ guitars. You can find Grecos, Orvilles and old Ibbys in quiate a decent price. There are at least two or three companies that import those.

I have a strong GAS for an Ibanez Roadstar Steve Lukather model, but it's not a single pup guitar and I don't want to steal the thread ;)

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I don't think I get that reference, but thanks anyway.

Phil X is a YouTube guy who also happened to be grabbed by Bon Jovi to replace Richie Sambora. He takes neck pickup out of 2HB guitars and replaces them with little figurines, etc.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I have one, the one in my avatar, it's a limited edition Jackson DK2M!H in Red Ghost Flames finish, MIJ. Alder body, bolt maple neck, maple fretboard bound in black, black sharktooth inlays, reverse matching headstock. Bought it second hand here in Portugal as a solution, since I really wanted an Ibanez RGXXV, a HS superstrat with a single coil size humbucker in the neck, but that deal didn't come through. Thought about installing one on the Dinky, but my tech said the risk of destroying the finish was too high, so I left it stock. It has a JT580LP tremolo that I'm considering swapping for a Schaller Lockmeister. The stock black TB-4 was recently swapped for a reverse zebra TB-4 for aesthethic purposes. It has a single volume know, swapped for a push-pull pot for series /parallel operation, just to give it a little more versatility.

Soundwise, it's a trip to the 80's rock and hardrock sounds, what I wanted these kind of guitar to be all about.

EDIT: The the OP, sorry for my cooment, just reread your post and saw you're looking for new guitars... Still if you can find one of these, it may go well with the El Diablo.
