Single channel clean blues/jazz amp help

I posted a thread earlier asking about the Twin reverb 65 RI, and got some bad reviews from Joneser and the others. I'm just looking for a really clean, chimey BF type amp that's new and is not a channel switcher. Pretty much the closest thing to a Blackface from a 40 watt vibrolux to an 80 watt twin type amp. Combos please!

GJ had bad things to say, but IMO with a set of NOS tubes and setting the bias the reissue Twins can be great sounding amps...I would rather have an older non PCB Fender amp, but the reissue's are fine amps.

The reissue tweede bassman's are pretty hot. I know they aren't a vibrolux or twin, but I tihnk they are most definitely worth a look. I liked it alot.

the price for the super reverb is a tad hefty, and so is the amp. I'm also a big speaker type of guy, i love the tones of my 15 inch JBL's so at least 12 inch speaker.

It looks like a good idea though. Do the speakers distort alot?

How heavy is it compared to the Pro Reverb and the Twin?

there is a new twin reverb with a single 15...Ihaven't tried one yet, but they are out there!

yeah i've known about the new one, but the amount of headroom that a D130F provides doesn't impress me as much as the 2x12 format of the twin. My REAL D130 starts clipping on the bass frequencies when the amp is at 5 and bass is turned down to 4. They handle 60 watts if I am not mistaken.

How is the pro? I probably would never use the 'lead channel', but if the BF channel smokes then im all over it.

My main ideas are-

How would a vibrolux sound with 2 weber michigan ceramics? Each has 100 watts of power handling so that's 200 watts of power=zero speaker distortion and more headroom, exactly what i want.

OR

A pro reverb with one weber michigan ceramic 12 incher.

OR

A super reverb stock, and a back brace.

I have not tried the new Pro, but i will tell you this...the 15 in that new twin is full range and should be able to handle tons of bass...

The Fender Blues Jr is actually a really nice amp for what you describe, except it's 25w. Great warm cleans, and super blues od, all in a one channel beauty.

The Roland JC is a superb clean channel amp. They're not new, but can be had at a really reasonable price. Supposedly one of the nicest clean channels there is.

that's what I was trying to let you know...that is one of the things that got chenged in the new ones...they fart less.

a Jazz Chorus is damn hard to beat for clean, I wouldn't use one for blues but...

To be honest, a Deluxe Reverb has a killer clean tone, and until you run it hard with buckers it stays pretty damn clean...if you could swing it, grab a pair of DRRI's and let it rip in STEREO!

hey that sounds like a mighty slick idea!!!!

It'd be hard on my wallet though, but very portable and loud at the same time.

Has anyone played the vibrolux? It's my primary candidate for adoption right now. Many people say that it's noisy because there's reverb on both channels and this diminishes the quality of sound that you could get from the reverb.

Others say that it has zero headroom, but i think that could be the low efficiency 10 inch speakers-i first had a low headroom pair of peavey 12 inchers for my 40 watt bandmaster but i switched to the JBL and everything changed headroom wise for the better.

Can anybody testify to the fact that the reverb on the vibrolux isn't great compared to the twin reverb? Is it really noisey? I'm playing a strat if it helps any.

EDIT: Just to let the team know, I am not an indoor musician. What is considered loud indoors would equate to lousy outdoors in most cases. My bandmaster sounds decent in both scenarios but i'm sure i'd be better off with a new fender combo 40 watts or higher, and if that doesnt cut it ill just throw Weber michigans in it.

then what's your price range?

if your JBL farts out, there's probably something wrong with it ... two D130s will be clean in a Twin

I think solid state is the way to go for that sound. Maybe a Polytone or one of those Norlin/Moog Lab amps that B.B King loves.

the JBL twin only has one. The reason why it tends to fart a bit is because the speaker is 8 ohms and my amp is 4 probably. Ill reevaluate my scenario once i recone my other JBL and load both into this closed back tuned EV bass cabinet. If this setup rips, then i'll be set.

i played one of those new twin amps with the 1 15" speakers extensively....... i found that it gave just a different character to the sound.....more tubby in the mids..... but i got up to loud volumes and the bass held up fine, with a stock strat, vintage style pickups

the blues jr is only 15w so probably way to small. the vibrolux is a great amp but doesnt have all that much headroom if you use buckers. its plenty loud but breaks up around 4, im sure the 25w speakers dont help. great blues amp and if you have a low output jaz box it could work out nice.
with a good set of tubes a twin ri isnt a bad amp at all.

Yeah, i play a strat w/ surfers so that's around 6.3k of output....very low in my book.

I think that the lower efficiency is probably due to the fact that im running an 8 ohm speaker with a 4 ohm transformer, but once i recone my other JBL that should be fine.

Would a vibrolux with 10 inch weber michigan high power speakers get the volume up for what i need? I just play outdoors with my band and occasionally play backyard and school venues. In other words, would higher efficiency speakers help beef up the volume capacity of the vibrolux?
