I have a lone star strat that i'm putting an sh-5 custom in tomorrow, I need recommendations for single coil replacements. Alder Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, HSS configuration. I play everything from 70's rock to metal (mostly prog rock). Please suggest what single coils would match the sh-5 custom well.

Are you looking for true single coils? Or would you want humbucker sized strat pickups? Do you play out of the bridge most of the time, and then want to go to a clean single coil sound, or do you want your single coils dirty? Do you play out of all three positions evenly? Are you a rhythm player in the bridge or neck? Are you a lead player in the bridge or neck? Please let us know.

Dimarzio makes a pickup called the SDS-1. It's like a P-90 within a strat sized pickup.
If you would want to stay within S.D., I personally like the rails pickups. You could go cool rails in the neck, and vintage rails in the middle. That would give your guitar a wide set of sounds. If you want something that rocks harder with lots of mids, you could go with a hot rails in the middle. That would be my suggestions for rail humbuckers.
For true single coils, I would suggest the SSL-5's. They are meant for overdriving and rocking out. S.D. says it's like a SRV sound but for playing with size 9-42 strings.

I've got a Quarter Pound in the middle with a Custom in the bridge in one of my guitars. They go together get nicely.
