I have an Ibanez S571, which is a mahogany fixed bridge HSH guitar. The stock pickups are pretty terrible, with very muddy low ends, poorly defined mids, and messy chords. I'm interested in the Black Winters, as I mostly play black metal, but I would need something to put into that single coil slot. I would like less hum, so I'm leaning towards some of the single-coil size humbuckers, but other than that I don't really know what would work. The middle coil would need to keep up with the BW's output when split, sound good underdistortion, and preferably provide an alternative clean tone, since I'd use the BWs more often for metal and include the single coil when branching out into other styles.
So, does anyone have any recommendations? It can be any brand. Alternatively, if you have some BWs in an Ibanez S series, tell me how you like 'em.
And finally, the alternative pickups I'm looking at are a pair of Lace deathbuckers with an alumitone in the middle. How would the BWs and their mystery middle pickup compare to that setup? I'm still pretty new to guitar so this is all a learning process for me. Thanks for any help you can offer!
