single coil pickup height

howdy, have a set of classic stak plus pickups in one strat and vintage rails set in another, just wondering what pickup hieght is a good starting point for each different sets ( right now have them set 5/64 low e, 6/64 high e)

There's no "right" answer. Adjust it to your liking. Experiment with it. It's the best way.

BTW, shouldn't the high e be closer to the strings than the low e?

I set mine to Fenders recommended specs, then adjust them as I hear fit. I usually start at 5/64 on the treble side, 6/64 on the bass side, then lower them.

I keep them a bit further from the strings than I used to - the single coils were really affecting my sustain.

I was messing around with my heights earlier, and came to the conclusion that I like them pretty low too. Middle single coil is really low, neck is quite a bit lower than I had it. Sounds much mellower and straty.
