single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Hola,

I picked up a low-end pacifica (HSS) for my nephew. For practice and fun I am going to replace the pots, switches, caps, etc.

I have a Duncan Designed (JB) that I will put in the bridge and would like to replace the single coils as well.

What would be some relatively inexpensive single coils that I could drop in that would be an improvement over the stock pickups.

If he progresses past this guitar I can start thinking about full-fledged Duncans:scratchch

Cheapest option is GFS at $20 a piece from guitarfetish. But its $75 for a set of Bill & Becky Lawrence Keystones (IDK if he sells single pickups).

Re: single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Id go with something from guitarfetish.com (GFS). ive dug almost all the single coils ive tried from them.

Re: single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Thanks everybody for the input. It looks like GFS will work just fine for what I need.

Want a cheap Duncan set? Wait for someone to drop their "Lite Ash" set on ebay. It's three (or two if it's a Telecaster) Alnico II Pro Staggered single coils. I love how they sound (even with 500k pots fwiw).

Re: single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Duncan SSL1 and APS1 sets go very cheap on used forum deals or on ebay. That's a great opportunity to get a good sounding set.

Re: single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Go for wilde l280neck and l200 middle from bill lawrence, only 40 dollars, cheap, noiseless, and musical, or if he wants real single coils, go for the ssl-1, my favorite single coil,

Re: single coil recommendations (likely non-Duncan)

Just wait around Ebay. I got a set of 2008 USA Fender strat single coils VERY cheap, even for the UK. I paid about $45 for the three.

BTW I'm not sure changing the bridge pup for a Duncan Designed one will be worth it. I doubt it'll be much better than the one already in there.
Which makes changing pots and stuff seem a waste to me.

GFS is your best bet to buy new, and get something that will still be better than stock.
