Single coil replacements.

I recently aquired a fender mexican telecaster (so two single coils) and am looking for the pickups to be replaced (especially the bridge).
I need something that can distort very well yet also have a nice clean tone.
For bands with a similar sound to what I'm looking for think of Circle Takes the Square or Alexisonfire.
What pickups would you recommend buying without having to carve the body?

Re: Single coil replacements.

Welcome to the Forum! My first choice would be the Lil 59 for humcancellation, followed by the Quarter Pound Lead, if you wish to keep a single coil in the bridge.

Re: Single coil replacements.

If you want to stay with a vintage tone, there are non finer than the Antiquity I Tele set. If you want to stay in that realm but want something hotter, the Jerry Donahue bridge model is superb. There's also the Hot Tele Tapped lead pickup which will let you have both hot output for soloing and vintage output for clean rythym playing. I use that one in one of my favorite Teles. Any of those three are GREAT choices, IMO. Lew

Re: Single coil replacements.

for alexisonfire and CTTS, you're almost definitely looking at singlecoil 'buckers man..

if you coil tap a hotrail, the clean tone is pretty nice considering it's specialisation.

lets look at alexisonfire.. one uses only gibson, one uses a mix of gibsons and a telecaster..

though, both sound like they detune to open D or drop C.. you need a pickup clear enough under gain to reflect this, in a tele format.

i'd have to say hot rails bridge, and install a coil tap. this will give you a good clean sound, but not a brilliant one.

for the neck, depending on how much solo work you do, maybe a vintage stack. hum-cancelling, and a nice clean sound.

see if any fit you're taste, but having only singlecoil spaces to work with does limit your choices for heavy stuff :)

(EDIT - thinking about it, benjy has a bloody good point. Lil '59 would be good.)

i think a vintage stack neck with a lil 59 bridge would be a good choice. very versitle, no hum and a thicker tone with more output than stock. the lil 59 gets a nice clean tone as well
