single coil sound...

ok, i've come to the conclusion that i like humbuckers for the bridge position of guitars, and single coils for the neck and middle. and single coils for solos as well, just a better overall solo tone, cuts through better and has a great distinct tone

so, im looking for some single coil humbuckers that sound like a single coil.

this is gonna be going in the neck position of my charvel(HSS, floyd rose)

im thinking of either the vintage rails or duckbuckers, or maybe even the classic stack.

what are your opinions? :)

Re: single coil sound...

Well, the Vintage Rails and the Duckbuckers are the same pickup with different cosmetics. I prefer the Vintage Rails, myself. It has a nice single coil tone without the hum. It would be perfect for some down and dirty blues. And the cleans are ultra sparkly. You'd have to really pour on the gain to get it to shred, but I think it could handle that as well. I have no experience with the Classic Stack. But, I've never known Duncan to make a bad pickup.

By the way, what kind of Charvel is it going into and matched with what in the bridge and mid?

Re: single coil sound...

The only one I know of that I would use myself has not been released yet. It will be the new Duncan noiseless single coil design tentatively called: the Stack Plus. I own a set of the prototypes and it is the first noiseless single coil I've played that really sounds like a single coil should.

Re: single coil sound...

The best single coil pup I have heard is the Duncan Antiquity Surfer.
I have yet to hear a noiseless pup that sounds as good.

Re: single coil sound...

thing is, the single coils in my strat sound great for fast stuff, and i dont need that much gain to do shred if i wanted to

it's gonna me going into a san dimas III charvel, koa body, floyd rose trem, JB in bridge, soon to be an ssl-1 in middle and what im asking for right now in neck.

the reason why i like the single coil tone in the neck is because you dont need to have distortion on it to sound great, even less less gain and it sounds so beautiful!!

Re: single coil sound...

This is not exactly what you are asking for, but you really should give one a shot... Blue Lace Sensor. It sounds like somebody made a single coil PAF. Actually, I'm a huge fan of the Red/Silver/Blue set.

Re: single coil sound...

both the Duckbuckers and the vintage rails are pretty damn good, the Stack Pluses that Lew is talking about are based on the Classic Stacks. I think that any of the 3 you named youd be a ood choice for what you want.

Re: single coil sound...

i was just looking around and was wondering how an actual true single coil would be in it? like the ssl-3 or something

from the looks of it, im probably gonna get the vintgae rails. im gonna go and listen to the pickup clips and get some more ideas on the tones of them
