Alright, I already done a quick search and got nothing. Are there any single coil (true sc or stack sc) pickup that suitable for down tuning? I'm talking C and lower tunings.
im sure many would work but ive never tried it. low wind vintage type might hold together best. srv got huge tone with weak fender strat pups. if you are using tons of gain then youll need to consider tonal issues and maybe hum.
do you want it to sound like a single coil or just single coil size?
My choice is SSL6. They are overwound but they aren't dark. They have a slightly compressed quality that keeps them from clanking at high volumes and distortion levels.
Other than string and spacing issues not to mention having to seriously route the guitar to fit why would you even consider this?
The hardest thing with singles for down tuning is just tonal issues. That and some strat singles that have high string pull can really play havoc when your down tuned and have low string tension. You will hear them pull the note out of tune as it decays.
Ive had good luck with Rio Grande Muy Grande singles tuned all the way down to A
