single coils for my strat

Hey All,

Need some help.

I want to upgrade the p/u's in my strat HSS. I have a JB in the bridge and i would like something that i can get a nice lead tone from in the middle and neck. I like the single coils for the belly cleans but need something that will also work well for solo's. The shawbuckers are nice for clean but just not enough to get a good rock lead tone. I do have an ESP vintage plus with hot rails and they really loose that single coil belly tone i like for clean.

can you guys suggest a good set up to go with my JB?

Much appreciated in advance!

Tapped Quarter Pounds would work.

My favorite singles are Texas Specials. I could play a Strat with just a TS neck for a really long time before I got bored and wanted something else.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you want them to sound like single coils or humbuckers? Is volume balance important to you? EQ?

Re: single coils for my strat

I like the single coil. I just want a more driven sound for lead. I have an Esp vintage plus HSS with hotrails. I want it to sound more single coil than those. I lose all the high end and i don’t get that nice belly sound with my clean

Re: single coils for my strat

I'd suggest a set of Classic Stacks, which are quiet, and have the nice round, bell-like tones of great single coils. The issue here is that the closer it sounds to a traditional single coil, the bigger the volume difference between them and JB. This doesn't bother everyone, so it may be worth it to you looking for a good single coil tone.
