Single Con. ‘59 Grounding and Volume Pot Issue

Re: Single Con. ‘59 Grounding and Volume Pot Issue

So I checked and everything looks clear of each other. I got the switch to completely short regardless of the volume knob level but wasnt able to deduce anything at the moment. Maybe something imperceptible by sight or feel.

So sounds like you have something intermittent going on. You may want to tug a little on the wires and make sure they dont break loose on their own. If they seem solid, maybe re-flow the solder joints, you could have a cold solder connection. Also, re-check your ground at the switch and make sure all wires are solid and re-flow that solder joint. Assuming it's a switch with the thick ground lug, that can be a tougher one to get a solid solder joint.

Do you mean that the wire going from the back of pot to the underside of my bridge needs to be checked? Or should I be placing the cap in a different place? Thanks!

Why do you have a cap on the volume control? Treble bleed?

Here’s the standard way to wire a volume pot. Input is from the pickup. If you add a treble bleed cap it goes between the input and output lugs.

Note the ground lug is also connected to the pot can. This is to shield the pot and gives a convenient place to solder ground wires.

The bottom pics of the pot: that black wire soldered to the back of pot is going to the ground/inner lug on the output jack.

Have you soldered the ground wire on the ground lug of pot? Because it looks in the picture it just goes through the loop without any solder on it. That would surely cause intermittent ground.
