Single Conductor pup

OK here's the deal. This is the first time I've tried to wire new pups in my guitar. I bought a 59 neck position humbucker with a single condutor wire in a H-S-H config with a 5-way switch. Can I wire this pup into my 5-way config eventhough I only have one lead wire? If so what is the best way to wire it, and how do you ground it?

Re: Single Conductor pup

Actually, your 59 is 2 conductor. All electrical devices must have at least two wires to complete the electrical path. The thing is, your 59 has a co-axial cable. Like the cable TV cable or a stereo RCA connection cable. If you carefully cut back some of the outside insulation, you can then push back some of the braided shield, and reveal the "other" wire on the inside.

The inside wire is "hot", the braid is ground. Use this diagram to get a better idea of what I mean:

So in this case do I connect the hot wire to the neck position point on the 5-way switch, and then just ground to the back of the volume pot?

Yes, but make sure you connect that braid to the back of the pot. Ultimately, you must have two wires connected to the pup.

Dealing with a co-axial cable can be a pain in the butt. ;)
