Re: Single-Cut Options

it was a tossup between the 59 LP or the McCarty. I picked the LP because i absolutely love their tone. But i'm in love with the McCarty too

i gotta say that blueline makes some of the best guitars i have ever played, and it won't cost you $3500 unless you get really crazy. talk to blueline

I just might have to consider getting a custom built axe. I'm really not looking into anything too crazy, just a nice, thick maple top, a nice thick mahogany neck with a thick mahogany body to match, and possibly tone chambers. I preffer a single cut for tonal reasons, but I love my Hamer's feel and upper fret access, so dual cutaways are cool too (if I can get most of the tone of a single cut out of them ;): .

Thanks a bunch for all the replies gentlemen. Keep 'em comin'! :burnout:

Re: Single-Cut Options

I'm inclined to believe (based on my R0 LP Special DC) that the R8 or R9 Gibsons are THE singlecut guitars to own. I'm so happy with my R0 right now that the next guitar I will probably get will be another Historic Gibson.

How are the fit and finish details on the Historics? I'm not looking for a really fancy flamed top, but I would like the bindings to be crisp (the ones in my LP do have a bit of bleed through), the nut to be well made, and the frets to be at least on par with my Hamer (I think I lucked out with my Gibby).

Basically, I'm looking for a guitar that at the most will need a change of strings and the pickups of my choice; I don't think I need another project. ;)

I'm sure there are some historics with flaws, but I bought from a reputable guy (Saul at Centre City Music in San Diego). Needless to say, the one I got in was so good I will eventually go back to him to buy another one.

The work on my R0 is virtually immaculate (not too shabby for what was considered the "poor man's les paul" ;) ).

Nothing can top a Gibson made on a good day. Call it hype, bs, whatever you want, but in my experience, that's what I've found. If you're looking for those Les Paul tones, you owe it to yourself to search out a well made R8 or R9, it may very well be the last guitar purchase you need (I'm not going to be selling my R0 and you can quote me on that :D ).

Re: Single-Cut Options

It's a tough call. i love the '58 Historic w/a chunkier neck, but I'm dying to try a Hamer Monoco.. They are one of the most beautiful guitars out there now.
