Re: Single like a Gibson BB
My Burstbuckers are what I would call bright in tone, yet smooth in response. Easy to get plenty of treble, and to get rid of the typical LP mud in the low end without loosing the creaminess, but not what I would call an extremely biting pickup in a LP. My Paul with Burstbuckers is, in terms of tone, the most Fender-like Gibson I've ever played, when I am using the bridge p/u. (The neck p/u is still "all Gibson.") However, the attack is certainly much smoother than a Tele or Strat bridge pickup. It has the highs of a Fender single coil, but doesn't "bite" like one.
Is that sort of what you are after? Bright tone but a smooth response? Or am I totally off the mark?
What guitar is it for?
