single pickup Strat

Ok...Lets say that you could only have one strat and it could only have one pickup. NO BUCKERS!

What model single would you use and where you would you put it?

YOu can do what ever with the wiring you want, but you can only have one pickup and it has to be a true single coil pickup!

Re: single pickup Strat

Hmm.... Does a tele pickup count? You can get super super hot ones that sound BETTER than buckers.

Just a little higher than the bridge, but much lower than middle.

Re: single pickup Strat

one true single coil in a strat and that's it??? hmmm what would i do...hmmm...i'd smash the guitar and call it a day lol. i realized i have no use for true single coils in my type of music. 1 pickup, 1 knob, no problem but it's gotta be a hum or a single sized hum.

Re: single pickup Strat

Well I've never played one but Antiquity II Surfer in the neck seems like a good choice.

Re: single pickup Strat

With those limitations, it would be a killer neck pickup in the typical neck spot. APS-1, Surfer, etc.

Re: single pickup Strat

One single coil on a Strat??? Yuch! :laugh2:

Well...if it was neck pickup I'd put a Surfer in there.

If it was a bridge pickup I'd put the Twangbanger, Antiquity Texas Hot Custom Bridge or the pickup I have in my white Strat: Custom Shop Alnico 2 Tapped Tele Hot.

Yeah that'd be the one: the CS A2 Tapped Tele Hot.

I do have a single pickup Strat but it has a 59Trembucker in it. It's my EVH Wanabe guitar! :laugh2: Although I can't really play in that style. I use it mostly for rocking out on Cream and Jeff Beck/Truth era style stuff.

Re: single pickup Strat

Quarter Pound . . . in the neck.
And if it isn't cheating, I'd make it a "tapped" version. Humbucker-ish and single-coil tone in one.

Re: single pickup Strat

Probably either a JB Jr or a Hotrail, in the neck position.

Damn, it's a good job Strats have 3 pickups and not one.

Re: single pickup Strat

Dammit, I just noticed you said 'true single coil pickup' so I guess Hotrails and JB Jr's are out then...

In that case I'd go with a Twang Banger. Just so I could have a tone that resembled both a Strat and a Tele.

Re: single pickup Strat

I already have one, and though I don't use it much, it sounds alright.

It's a peavey raptor stock single coil pick-up in the middle position.

250k volume pot, no tone pot.

Rock On!

The resemblance is striking!

Re: single pickup Strat

I'd probably get a mint colored pickguard with a cream Surfer neck, and put a 50's Girl sticker where the bridge and middle pickup would be. That would actually look pretty cool!

Re: single pickup Strat

Well, ANY single coil pickup... it'd be a Fender Neck from the 50s or 60s. If it had to be new, im not sure, either Surfer neck or i'd most likely experiment with something else!

Re: single pickup Strat

I haven't much experience with Strat single coils. Based on what I've heard, probably a Twangbanger or a Quarter Pounder in the bridge.
