Single Sized Humbucker for Mahogany Tele - High Gain lead tone?

Ok my guitar teacher has a mahogany tele, maple top, flame maple neck (dunno if that makes a difference?) and a rosewood board.

Regular Tele string through bridge.

He currently has a JD bridge in it but wants to get a b@stardised lead sound out of it... Something that will sound good for high-ish gain leads and rhythm, and not sound much like a telecaster at all.

I know one of his amps is a Mesa Lonestar, and another is a Line 6 Flextone, he may have more for all I know.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Duncan.

I was thinking JB jr, but I don't see a Tele version so would the strat version work just as well?

Also what about a hotrails?

If you want a single spaced humbucker type pup for high gain work nothing beats a Hot Rails. Hehe and I don't think it will sound very Tele like at all.

The hotrail telecaster bridge sounds very very smooth and even to my ears. It is very very hot. Would be perfect for metal or any imaginable form of hard rock. I have a strat bridge version in my strat. It really helps counteract the brightness of the bridge on my maple neck strat.

You can also try the little '59 for telecaster bridge. It's not as hot as the hotrails, but just as ballsy to my ears. I think it has just a tad more midrange than the hotrail.

They both sound very similar to me.

I like the little 59 over the hot rails. The hot rails is great, but the little 59 is a little more versatile. It sounds great with high gain.. very NOT tele
