single sized pickup in neck with jb bridge?

So i got a jb in the bridge of my charvel (bolt on, poplar body, maple neck, floyd)
Now what would work in the neck?
It has to be single sized, and i doesn´t want a output drop when switching from bridge to neck.
So i was thinking about a hot rail in the neck, or maybe a jb jr?
Any ideas what might work?

What kind of tone are you looking for?? I can recommend a thousand pickups, but there´s no saying you´ll like them ;)

Hmm I have the same Q I have a JB in the bridge and want a single coil in the neck. But I want a picup thats meant mostly for chords.

Re: single sized pickup in neck with jb bridge?

Cool Rails for fat and clear, a bit bell-like
Lil´59 for a bit warmer but still pretty clear
JBJr for fatter still, but startung to lose clarity
Hotrails for just plain fat
Lil ´59 Bridge model for almost too fat, starting to mush up
JBJr Bridge model for too fat
Hotrails Bridge model for a ton of fresh butter and nothing else :laugh2:

I´m assuming that you want something hum-cancelling

Re: single sized pickup in neck with jb bridge?

I've never found a real single coil that can keep up with a JB, though I haven't tried a neck QP single coil with a JB.

I'm going to guess it would have to be a humbucker single coil like Zerb mentioned...unless you wanted to go with a P90 or Phat Cat. But those won't fit in a standard Strat pickup size rout.

Yes i was thinking a single sized bucker.

Well then go down the list that Zerb provided, pick one and give it a try. Good luck! :)

The SSL-5 and Quarterpounder can if you lower the JB a hair, but you still have a slight "afterburner" effect when you go to the bridge by itself. And tonally they´re not what I would call "Vintage replicas", but the combo makes a killer superstrat (Did someone scream Charvel? :D)

Re: single sized pickup in neck with jb bridge?

How is the output of a little 59 compared to jb?

And i actually found a bridge version cool rail used in sweden, but it´s the old version, can i make it fit the rout of my charvel without modding the guitar,
Or should i just wait for the new version and order new?
Any idea how the cool rails bridge model would sound?

Re: single sized pickup in neck with jb bridge?

That list is more or less output / fatness rated, although I must admit that the output following the same scale is chance. In fact, Id switch the ´59 bridge and hotrails around, I think I goofed there ;)

Bridge Cool rails should, theoretically, be somewhere between the lil´59 and the hotrails neck, but I´ve not tried that combo yet.

You can make it fit by filing off the "nose " that holds the wires, I had to do that to mine, but you have to be hella careful that you don´t file through one of the wires by accident ;)

My experience was similar. I had a JB in my Genny for awhile with some QP's. The QP's full-on would slightly overpower the JB. The QP's tapped, would be yield to the JB.

It was a great combo. QP's enhanced by the JB, in one setting. JB enhanced by the QP, in the other. I changed the JB for a C5 just because it gave me closer to the Tele-twang that I wanted.

But any of the SSL-3/4/6's "tapped" would be a nice match to the JB. (Or any humbucker.) IMHO
