Singlecoils for a EVH Frankenstein pickup

Hi Fellows,

I need your advice on some SD singles.
I am updating a strat to have it HSS.
The bridge pickup is an SD Frankenstein.
I am looking for two single coils that pair well with the Frankenstein.

I am looking for a noiseless pickup that keeps the original bell-like and the percussive sound of the Stratocaster.

Thanks in advance,
Ivo

sounds like classic stack plus models to me! great strat tone and noiseless

I would love to know what kind of singles EVH used in his SSS Wolfgang

Well, I can shed a little light on that, since my neighbor once dated EVH's guitar tech, so she has all the inside scoop.

It turns out Eddie used the bobbin from a 57 Fender strat pickup that he rewound with wire from a 59 PAF, and charged the magnets (which were a special project of Larry Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan working together in a small, undisclosed lab) with a Variac attached to a huge Neo magnet. This was later modded by Jose Arredondo to increase its mid's by putting it within the field of the particle accelerator in Fermilab in Illinois (Jose was secretly a nuclear science who only did guitar stuff on the side, turns out.) Later, Eddie had the pickup shipped to the Vatican where it was blessed by Pope John Paul II in an attempt to increase its treble a little; Pope John also regaussed the magnet, most likely.

Eventually Eddie decided single coils just weren't for him, and painted it red and black stripes before gifting it to his guitar tech's girlfriend (my neighbor) who would be willing to part with it for a measly $100,000 or a half-pound of meth. Let me know if you want to get in touch with her.

Another vote for the Classic Stack Plus here. I think the higher output singles start to sound too dark for a EVH-type pickup.

That's actually a Music Man EVH, not a Wolfgang. And thus if I had to guess I'd say it has the same or similar pickups to the Albert Lee model from the early 90s.

He did have a few single coil Wolfgangs as well. At least one with traditional Strat style pickups and at least 2 with single coil sized hums made by Jim DeCola.
