Check out this sweet circuit I made by accident. I just made a darlington out of two transistors I had lying around, used a basic booster circuit with a 1M resistor connected to the emmiter, and attached one AA battery. Oddly, it sounds like a sitar. It's just not very clear at this moment. That'll be fixed....somehow

Does it sound more like a Sitar then the Dan-O "sitar swami" stompbox?!

I'll go make some right now. The output is pretty low. It's a really weird distortion that kind of has that buzzy-ness of a sitar.
