Six pin to four pin firewire adapter...works okay?

Okay, so I bought a computer to run a software synth with and I only bought it because it said it has 1394 firewire, which my Tascam interface uses. The Tascam uses a six pin connector, and when I got the computer I found that it is a four pin (didn't clarify in the ad, which I doublechecked). I searched online and read that the only difference is that the extra two pins on the six supply power, and the Tascam does supply phantom power. I am NOT going to use the phantom power, so I assume an adapter will work fine. Just want to see what you guys say.

Yep, should be fine. Looks tiny though heh

FireWire comes in two speeds, 400 and 800. If you connect the two using an adapter, the data transfers at the lower rate. For what you will be doing, this will make no difference.

It should work, but you may still need to use the power adapter with the unit, even if you're not using phantom power. Just depends on how it's built.

That's not the case here, his computer has the 4 pin mini firewire port. FW 800 uses a small 9 pin connection.

Yes, I'll have to plug the Tascam in but the Tascam FW-1804 interface won't be able to supply phantom power, which is fine. I only use that when I record with my desktop, and that has the six pin firewire connection.

From what I read, the 9 pin is the 800mbps and the four and six pin are 400. I looked at the FW-1804's manual and it does transmit 400mbps. I wish you guys could have seen me when I opened the computer box and saw the itty bitty firewire port, lol. NOT a pretty sight. Just glad I had enough sense to do some late research instead of just freaking out and sending it back.

Again, thank you to ALL for helping me out here. I appreaciate it.
