SJB-3 vs Squier, round 1

Does the Quarter Pound for jazz bass have a larger-than-normal case/housing?

I tried installing a set in a Squier Jazz (Standard series, not Affinity) just before Xmas, and though the neck pickup went in fine, the bridge pickup hole would need to be routed 1-2mm in every direction for the QP to fit. If I did a poor routing job there's no pickguard around the bridge pickup to hide it, and even if I did a decent routing job, the weather hereabouts won't be warm enough to do a proper refinish for 2-3 months, so I'm naturally hoping to avoid that whole direction.

Would other Basslines be less of a tight squeeze than the QP, or if one SD doesn't fit should I expect none of 'em to?

I think the spacing and size of the bridge pickup varies on some J Basses, depending on model.

IIRC, Duncan makes two versions of their J Bass pickup specifically for this reason.

I know the bridge pickups are generally one-tenth of an inch wider than the neck pickups, but this is the first I've heard of Duncan offering Jazz bridges in two sizes. A casual browse of the site didn't turn up anything about it.

Am I S.O.L. on getting an aftermarket Duncan bridge into a Squier Jazz without woodworking? Seems like it would be a fairly common pairing, what with some Squier Jazz basses coming with Duncan Designed pups in the first place.

I just installed a Hot Stack and QP for bridge into my friend's MIM Jazz Bass, and we had to file off portions of the covers to get it to fit through the pickguard and align in the bridge position. No woodworking though.
