Skeptical about Maxon Pedals

..On paper they have all the right stuff ( solid construction, excellent and even period correct vintage spec components). Sonically, I'm not so sure they are all that great..I wasn' particularly blown way for the price.

I guess the main point is they aren't cheap new, and their resale value ,at least according to the one I have been trying to sell, is Nihl.

Just a heads up.

Re: Skeptical about Maxon Pedals

I've got a few of the 9 series pedals, and I can see where you're coming from, I probably wouldn't have bought them new, but I cut a good deal for all three at the local pawn shop. The AD9 is good, but my Carbon Copy kicks it butt easily. I love the tone of my FL9 flanger, but when the effect is turned on the is a significant volume drop from the amp. The PT9 Pro+ phaser however I really like, coming from the Phase 90 to this I like the extra controls to sculpt the sound of the effect, and it has a small LED that brightens and dims in time to the rate of the effect whether the pedal is on or off.

I love 9-series Maxon.

Re: Skeptical about Maxon Pedals

I just sold my 0d9 pro plus got over $200 for it but it took sometime to sell.

Say wa??????

I mean, those were the ones that we made fun of.

Of course, then again, as functional as a "tube screamer" can be, they can be highly over-rated as well.

Re: Skeptical about Maxon Pedals

I prefer the od9+ and the st9+ over the 808, but there's still days when I'm using a certain guitar or head that I like the 808 better.
My vfe boosters get the most time out of my od/boost pedals.

Not a big fan of the footswitch on 9-series Maxons, but otherwise, the build quality is great, and the sound is good. I think they're well worth the money.

Very true. The switching is a pain and sucks for anything other than always-on overdrives or always-on pedals in the loop.
I much prefer the classic switches (od808-type) and Boss-style.

Re: Skeptical about Maxon Pedals

what sucks about the switching? honest question since ive only had a ts and delay and i didnt have issues with switches

They're very rugged and would probably last forever but can be a bit hard to hit from any side-angle or if you have the "wrong" footwear on,,,,,,,,,,and they take a very hard push to switch with your hand.
IMO Boss has the best style pedal-switches, but the maxon od808 or mxr-style are good too.

It's a bit tricky to turn the pedals on or off. On my old OD-9, you had to step on the footswitch the right way, otherwise it wouldn't turn on or off. It's not like MXR or Boss switches on which it's simple to engage. Otherwise, great pedal, though. Sounded nice and was built like a tank. Same as my old OD-808.

Love the OD9, 808. The CP101 has been a staple in my board (I actually sold it and bought it back).

Never had reliability issues. Not the greatest resale value in my experience. As usual, YMMV.

Who the hell would make fun of such an awesome tube screamer. Sounds like dinkus maninkus talk to me.
