Skinny Screws, big pickguard holes!

sorry guys I searched with all variations on this (I think)

my JB Jr. was mounted on my Strat pickguard with rather stubby wide diameter screws.
My Custom Custom I'm putting in there at this very moment, has skinny long screws. I know to trim them for length, but what of the bad fit in the pickguard? Won't I have issues with vibration and feedback much like Tele/bridgplate vibration problems?

or new smaller holes in the pickguard ? !

How much space would I need between the new and old holes so as not to weaken the plastic too much ??

Lemmie just see if I can clarify this a bit...

Do you have a single-coil or a humbucker route in your pickguard's bridge position?

The bigger holes shouldnt make any difference...unless the screw heads are smaller than the holes. Then I'd say you should either A) get a couple of washers if you can find em in the right size and put em between the screws and pickguard or B) get a new pickguard.

OK should they be rubber or plastic for insulating properties? Or will metal washers transmit too much vibration to the pickup?

This is a single coil angled space where I just took out my JB Jr. and which I'm enlarging to fit the CC. I will put this at the same angle. The CC's non-Trem spacing be damned. The angle helps a bit.

That makes a bit more sense then...cool!

any kind of washers I can imagine would do...some people use rubber tubing on their single coils instead of springs due to the "feedback problems" you mentioned...Personally, I've tried both ways, and haven't noticed all too much of a difference. Humbuckers seem to be used with springs pretty universally too. Still...You'll be attaching it to a plastic pickguard (right?)...so its probably no different from just using metal screws.

Yes just with the usual screw into pickguard. Of course now I see what you mean....the original JB screw was just bare metal touching the pickguard too :smack: whats the diff with another bit of metal in the washer... OK I think I'm straight.
