Slap bass is hard

All things being equal, bass is technically easier since you only have to play 1 note at a time.

So then a violin (4 strings) should be easier to play than my 5-string bass. I less string to care about.

I didn't specify in my post that I meant comparing pop/rock music and instruments since that's what we usually talk about on here. I meant if you hold the level of song equal for each instrument, the bass will usually be the easiest comparing drums and guitar for example, even keys. Not always though, there's every sort of difficulty and level of play for any instrument.
