Slash A2pro:a painful story

The long anticipated Slash A2pro was finally here...I made the appointment with THE man(me not good with electronics) and all was set...
"Nice piece" said THE man..."You know it won't split, don't you?"
...Was I in the twilight zone?Had someone set a hidden camera just to cut my reactions? Was that the Judgment Day?
What was I thinking, brothers? All this search and didn't noticed the most important detail...not four conductor, not four conductor,NOT FOUR CONDUCTOR!In addition to all this drama, the fffffffffffffffffff...ing supplier won't take it back 'cause "the product has been taken out of it's packaging"!
So now I'm stuck with a brand new SD p'up,not being able to use it.You see I love those cleans in series and parallel split positions...
Just sharing...

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Yeah trade it. Or use it in a guitar you dont need those split tones.

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Was the "supplier" a bonafide Duncan dealer? Doesn't the 21-day return policy apply?

P.S. For a $20, Duncan will convert it to 4-wire. You probably could have ordered it as a shop floor custom for little to no upcharge.

Quote to everybody:
The p'up is already posted at my country's(that would be a surprize) most prominent music site.
I don't have, at the present time,a second guitar to stick it in(poor grey).
The supplier has no dependent attachment to Seymour.
There is a 40days warranty in force but that "sales scientist" doesn't comply to that, considering the p'up a used product.Maybe I should send him a protest letter...With anthrax in it.

What's E-Bay?...Just kiddin'.

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

There's no tone report,Diego...I didn't have neither the time or the mood to even try it.
It's the bridge model and it was intended for the neck position. But I'll surely give it a soundcheck while I still have it...

Sd told me it would have to be custom shop since it is a sig model

Yes They can't do it as a shop floor custom 'cause it would have to be Slash-approved to be Slash signature and have the Slash logo on the bottom.

Not sure if they could do it even in the custom shop as a "Slash" pickup with 4 conductor. They probably would have to make a "similar" (read: same) sounding pickup with 4 conductors but it wouldn't have the Slash logo on it.

Would have gotten these also in my LP but this kept me from duing so.

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

come on GUYS!! are you really whining about 4 lead vs braided wire?! are you kidding me? ok, here it goes.

take off the cloth wrapping around the bobbins
take of the paper tape (carefully, it tears easily)
undo the brass screws at the bottom
gently solder, with a low wattage iron (25w is what I prefer) all the bobbin leads off of the braided wire. you just can't miss it
connect the 4 conductor wire. use heatshrinktube or whatever you call it to isolate and insulate the connections. use the color codes duncan uses, just to be clear. that means that black still goes to hot, green to earth and white and red are together. if you get a phase issue, just swap out green and the 'other' wire (don't know by heart which one it is).

its really so easy guys. come on. its like the last step of a hybrid. don't yank, don't pull or be agressive with the leads, thats all. After all, its a pickup, not your wife.

We are good untill the second step.
Once we took of the paper tape we saw that the whole thing round was fully waxed!A fat, stuck, solid perimeter of wax...Hard to take any chance with that.

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

You should notify the forumuser named BobaFett. His post on tuesday was about this subject. Maybe he would buy it from you...

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Thanks for thinking of me Khriss.

I am actually interested in the custom shop idea. Whether the pickup has a logo or not does not concern me. I could tell them what I am looking for, and that's it? Have any of you actually had custom pickups made for you?

Thanks.

If you're from Europe, I can convert'em to 4-conductor just for the expense of the wire and the postage. Shot me a PM if you're interested.

HTH,

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Who cares? Install them and rock that sh** out! Why don't you have the tech wire it so that it's in parallel in the 2 & 4 notch positions? Can't that be done with single conductor?

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

You don't need to convert it to 4 conductor. You can just (gently) pull the tape off the junction between the two coils, then solder a separate wire just to that. Run that wire to ground to split the pickup. This way there's just one extra wire coming out and the coil junction still happens right inside the pickup. The electrons take the shortest path. (meaning no additional cable capacitance between the two coils)
