More clarity and a different sounding midrange than the standard ap2, but not really thicker. I find it much less prone to mudding outunder gain..it will do that singing slash/moore/sykes thing when you crank up the distortion. It also has some crazy single coil like characteristics in attack, and dynamics. Clean its great for big box bebop.
Eq wise it would probably match OK with a DD.
I suspect covers would be a shop floor custom upcharge.

I dont know if it would be that simple. Slash gets a say on the features there was a time when it wasnt available 4 conductor they had to wait for him to OK it. Not like it would be hard to fit an aftermarket cover anyways.

Pretty sure you could get the nickel cover with no trouble. I got one with yellow bobbins, short mounting legs and 4-conductor wiring.

yeah maybe he loosened up the options on the pickup. The yellow is fruity what guitar did you stick that into?

It was actually for a friend with rather "eccentric" tastes. Believe it or not, I put it in the bridge of one of these for him:
I was surprised to discover it actually looked pretty good. Certainly much more "him". Took a bit of the po-facedness out of the guitar. No photo, sadly - I did try to find one.
It turns out that the other pickups are opposite phase to the Duncan, but he decided he liked the one weedy sound that resulted (I didn't). We wired the push/pull pot as a series/parallel switch instead of a coil split. It's a nice pickup in parallel.

ya the slash AIIP has a real single coil like voice to me in terms of clarity under gain, super articulate. I like the stock AIIP myself.....little thicker sounding and smoother to me
