Re: Slash SD Pickups in a 2014 Gibson LPJ, new solution?
so I finally got my slash pickups installed in my LPJ. there is a definate difference with these installed, they're a lot warmer and a little bit brighter which I really like. what I love about them most is that they actually have the raw, crunchy guns n roses sound. I play through a Blackstar ID:100 and the matching 4x12 cab and I've got that Gn'R tone dialed in spot on. the neck is really nice, doesn't have that liquidy sound that I don't like, I found myself doing a lot of soloing in the middle position which is unusual for me. they're nice and clear in both bridge and neck positions. they neck pup is where I'm most impressed tho, like i said I really love the raw crunch it delivers while being so clear. they're also really nice for other tones aswell with a few tweaks on the amp. install was a piece of cake, didn't use the molex connectors and pins I bought.
on a side note, I put a set of emg James Hetfield pickups in my BC Rich mockingbird, these things are absolutely amazing. for a guitar I havent played in a couple years cuz I hated how it sounded, it's been given a new life. the output of these is outstanding and you get that hard hitting metal sound. the neck is far from muddy and with a clean tone is actually nice and bright, I can see myself using the neck a lot more now. the bridge is just wicked, nice and bright with a lot of crunch and bottom end, especially when palm muting, very powerful, but clear at the same time when playing lead or a nice riff. the install was super easy with the solder less system, every pickup install should be like this.
