Maybe it's for powering the distortion circuit while the wah effect is on, so they can be on simultaneously.
I always thought it was for headroom. Fulltone does that with a lot of their pedals, make them compatible with 18 volt adapters for more headroom.
Not to mention all those wah/fuzz thingies we got slammed with back in the day. The first "multi-FX" :banana:Something like this rings more true to me than the above posters. A single 9V will run a Wah + dist. circuit without a problem. (Snarling Dog Wahs do it on a single 9V.)
It's for more headroom, just like the original 535Q wahs.

When has anyone every used 18v supplies to power multi-effect pedals? All the fuzz-wahs and octave fuzzes run off 9v. In a guitar with EMG pickups, or active accessories, only one 9v battery is required, no matter how many pickups/accessories.If one is to really power two independent effects, it would make sense to power them with separate power supplies. When has Dunlop ever used 18v supplies for their wahs? I used to own a 535Q wah and that was 9v, please enlighten me![]()
