yes they are, but he didnt record appetite for destruction with them, like stated in the add on ebay.

Slash only used Jubilee's live and part of Use Your Illusion I believe. Use your illusion was also a JCM800 with 6550 output tubes. Appetite was a Marshall 1959T (superlead plexi with tremolo) modified by Tim Caswel. Jubilee's were pretty much only his live amp.

I'd be willing to believe that.

Someone that could make a dead-on recreation of that amp would likely do well at market with them. The problem is, of course, locating that head to be able to verify it.

Exactly man!

A while ago a guy showed up on the hoffman amps boards. Said he worked for S.I.R. as a tech and his last day there was tomorrow. Said "here's an amp I built. oh and here's Stock #36's preamp schematic, an amp Tim Caswel modded similarly to Stock #39 (the appetite amp)". There was much speculation over whether he was telling the truth or lying, but he was in fact telling the truth. There was a slight error with his hand drawn schematic that was corrected, but from what I can recall, the mod is very similar. A guy by the name of Rockstah on the metroamp forums tried out that mod, and said he could hear the appetite tone in that mod.

I believe in the end it all comes down to the Les Paul with Alnico 2 pickups into ANY Marshall amp. The more and more expensive gear I play, the more I realize that you'll never be able to totally "nail" any tone down, and most tones can be approximated much easier than going through all the trouble to get as close as possible.

Joe: Rockstah has two amp tones I've been drooling over. One is a hot-rodded VH sounding plexi, and the other is higher gain (additional gain stages). Is the second the Caswell mod?

My 100 watt JMP would strongly disagree with you. :laugh2: :laugh2:

Tim was not really a hard rock afficianado, and was just doing his job back when the original #39 was modded. After Tim's departure from S.I.R., Jgriffes (the guy from the Hoffman board) was given the task to modify another amp to somewhat replicate the #39, so #36 was constructed. There is some descrepancy between #39 and #36, because JGriffes never stressed the extra gain stage being added when he offered up the schematic on the Hoffman board. The added stage certainly helps, even though only half of the 12AX7 is used.

When John (Mr.MiniMite) got the ball rolling and did all of the research on #39, he of course contacted Tim. Tim found his original sketched schematic for the Tremelo modded amp, and started supplementing his income by replicating #39 for people.

Tim is of course now marketing his own "#39 Amp", built from the ground up. He would much rather sell one of his own midi controlled amps, but will still do the mods when politely asked (and paid). Hence my 100 watt JMP that NAILS the AFD tones, whereas it did not do that before........did not even come close. He truly mods the amp, and does not just tweak a few things like some other people do.

Bah... I'm still not entirely certain he magically found his schematic for stock #39. You're spot on about the whole situation though. Call me a doubting Thomas, but I can't imagine him magically finding the schematic almost 20 years later. I emailed Tim cAswel when the situation broke. A month later I got a response saying he was looking into how he;d go about doing the mods and everything. I dont know man. That'd be like me 20 years from now trying to find a schematic for something I did for a previous job. I cant imagine even the biggest packrat finding that... especially since the hype of #39 that initially started when george lynch tried to steal it was after Tim had already left S.I.R.

But his new amps with midi control and motorized knobs really are cool!
