I'm actually quite shocked that there are no threads that popped up when I did a search for this topic. We'll see what the response is. What IYHO are the real sleeper pedals out there? Can be overdrive, distortion, chorus, etc. and whatever :D.

Yup and yup. Especially the Bad Monkey. You can get very close to the Tubulator with the right settings on the BM.

Also, if, and only if, you can still snag it for $80, the Yamaha MagicStomp II. But let me qualify that - its interface is horrible, but put it on the "Plate Reverb" setting, and leave it there, and you have a killer reverb. One "click" away is a fun spring reverb. Then, if you don't frustrate easily, check out its other settings.

Despite its interface problems, I'd still buy one again just for the 'verb's. (For $80.)

I thought the Tubulator was basically a TS circuit..? Like the SD1? How is it different?

I still say SD1 because it's easy to mod it to make it sound entirely different.

MI Audio crunchbox. Could be worth a lot more and still be good!

Big Muff. I modded mine. But put it back to standard. For what it does, it's perfect. And cheap. GREAT pedal. A bit vicious but easy to tame with your picking. I love mine.

I'll say it again: the BOSS GE-7 is the most underappreciated pedal in the universe, considering how powerful it is.

DOD Bifet Boost - The only DOD pedal I think is worth owning.

Arion Tubulator
Arion SAD-1 - Stereo Analog Delay - makes awesome UFO noises
Arion SCH-1 - Stereo Chorus (it has a tone knob)

Bad Monkey

Danelectro - Fabtone Distortion (NOT THE OVERDRIVE!!!). It needs mods, but with the right mods it's a very decent distortion pedal. Noisy when cranked though. Mod it for less gain and asymmetrical clipping with germanium diodes. Quieter LM833 op amps instead of the TS magic juju chip 4558.
