Sleeper pedals

Re: Sleeper pedals

Big Muff. I modded mine. But put it back to standard. For what it does, it's perfect. And cheap. GREAT pedal. A bit vicious but easy to tame with your picking. I love mine.

Guys, those aren't sleepers at all! They're all go-to pedals for a ton of people.

My picks:
Ibanez DFL (Digital Flanger): One would think that the words digital and flanger don't belong together, but this little pea green box as some serious tone. It's the choice of Tom Morello as well as Adam Jones. Subtle enough to be useful, it give your rhythm playing a little movement behind it.

EHx Wiggler: It may be too expensive to be considered a sleeper, but this box is one of the most beautiful sounding vibrato/uni-vibe pedals I've heard. I'm sure the duo of 12AX7's contribute to the warmth, I can leave it on with a touch of built in OD and jam for hours.

Rightous Tones - Sonic Mayhem: Great Triangle era Muff clone, heaps of gain, great tone stack, nice immediate attack.

Tonefactor Nubula/Mule: I don't have them but I'd like to try them. Reasonably priced Phase 45 inspired phaser and Red Llama clone. Good stuff.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon Wah.
It's a real demon. The most tweakable ,the most versatile ,and allmost impossible to get bad to Wah on earth!
Built like a tank ,easy to change the battery and has auto/awich modes wich gives you 2 models in 1 pedal.
It's big ,heavy ,and Incredible!

Re: Sleeper pedals

Rocktron Short Timer delay
Arion Tubulator
Most ToneFactor custom shop pedals - Mule, Huckleberry, Nebula, etc etc
AMT pedals

I only buy sleeper pedals:headbang:

Re: Sleeper pedals

I just checked out your link Niels, and found that I had the DDS-20M Delay/Sampler and I think the CH-10M Chorus.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Hehe yeah, I found the old flanger last year, hope to dig up a few more, I like Yamaha's stuff, used to have an analouge delay, sold it to my buddy, so it is not far away.
How did those old things sound Stevie??

Re: Sleeper pedals

I think the Boss PS-3 Pitch Shifter/Delay is an incredibly underrated pedal. It does great delay, detuned chorusing, chorus+delay, octaves, three part harmonies, arpeggios, and a whole bunch of bizarrely cool noisy sounds.

Re: Sleeper pedals

The Ibanez Classic series...

I know some will disagree, but I really like the Ibanez 10 series. I have the TS-10 (not really a sleeper, but one of my favorite Tube Screamers), the Fat Cat (a great Rat killer IMHO) and the Mostortion.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Ah yeah alot of those 10 series things are great pedals!
The one before with the same housing, just with a metal on/off switch also had some very good ones!
I have the FC-10, and a turned into a ts-808 ts-10 pedal....still sucks but then again I never use it:D
I am looking for the MT-10...hope to get one later on, have a MS-10 as well...very underrated and for most difficult to adjust pedal:)
These guys knows how to make good pedals for sure!

Re: Sleeper pedals

Tweak Fuzz. It seems to get beat up quite a bit, but I find it pretty versatile compared to many fuzzes out there.

Aramat Mojo Fuzz. Excellently voiced, versatile fuzz. I hope to try some of Keith's other pedals, too.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Ibanez DE-7 delay/echo? did anybody say this already?

I just sold one of those on ebay recently. It is a good pedal and I'd say it almost fits into the sleeper category. People do recognize it as a good delay though. Of course the Memory Man and others get all the glory, but the trusty ole DE-7 is a good serviceable delay with some good sounds in it.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Those big, AC-powered DOD FX from the '70s. Like the 670 Flanger, 680 Delay and 690 Chorus. Awesome stompers. They are all pretty noisy but they sound great and have a soul! The 670 has the slowest sweep rate of any flanger I've owned. I swear it takes like a minute to get through a cycle on the minimum setting.

Re: Sleeper pedals

Boss HM-2 "heavy metal"....I think the Name is the only reason people don't LOVE this pedal. Cause theres nothing metal about it at all. Had it been called "Fuzzy Crazy Mess" I think it'de be considered a classic.

They were excellent and very versatile. If the delay had a tap-tempo it would be perfect. It had a really nice decay to the repeats for a digi delay. Up to 1.5 secs of delay I think, might have been more. Very useful sample too, you could cram quite a few layers on it. I could cover U2, Floyd, and Brian May type delays on it with ease. I've seen a couple on Fleabay, and am sorely tempted as I don't have a delay at the mo. They were also built like a tank!

Ya know I have the TS-10, and it is as good of a Tube Screamer as I have ever heard! I must've gotten one of the good ones with the correct chip. But Tube Screamers and their ilk are a dime a dozen, so I guess they really don't fit the definition of a sleeper.
