who here uses slides , and who here loves it?

i just got a slide over the weekend, a cheap pyrex glass one by dunlop, it was the cheapest

i love slide ! i put the acoustic in slide for now, and i must say, i can see using slide as a tool in my future, much more than i use capo (i use them occasionallyu for drop tuning or some songs)

what are good slides? i am soo gonna go get another one, either make or buy, whats good? any tips on slide playing?

I use a Dunlop 215 medium pyrex, with heavy walls, and an open G tuning, Like Ry Cooder & the late great Lowell George.

I slide lap syle, but I like the sound of a metal slide better than glass. My favorite dobro slide is a chrome Scheerhorn.

Oh yeah, a good chrome sparkplug socket makes an excellent guitar slide. That's what Johnny Winter uses and he is the man! If you want to hear some serious slide guitar check out Sonny Landreth too, he's as good as they come.

I play slide in all the bands I'm in. I use a dunlop brass thing, or a 7/8s socket, depending on what sound I need. Check out some Son Seals, and go to hastings and get Blues Slide guitar cd, on rounder/easydisc records.

I use a glass bottle...one of those Duane Allman ones. It was close-out for 6 bux. I like it alot...been working on some ABB songs with it and doin my own jams. I tune to either open E or G.

I use a Glass Corricin bottle ( ala Duane) Don't know who made um'?
Maybe dunlop ? I've had them for years so I forgot who made them?
I play mainly in STD. tuning. But for certain songs I use what I call
cheater tunings ( or Faux tunings) like I'll tune my G string up to
Ab to give the sound of open E.

Yep, slide's great. You might want to get a big brass slide for acoustic stuff. On electric, I prefer the coricidin bottle, although the Dunlop Metallic Mudslide is also really interesting... kinda smooth, but bright overtones when you slide over a wide interval. I use standard and open E tuning.

Mostly I tune to open D, I am a hack but I can fake some of it real well. Next to old Muddy, Rod Price is my slide playing idol, I love Foghat, he has the wildest and widest vibrato going. The chick Elise that plays slide in Raging Slide is a fine hard-rocking player too. Mississippi Fred McDowell is fun to listen to play slide, he used to use a steakbone, the cat had mojo to spare!!!

I have a slide fetish, haven't bought on in a while though. I use Dunlop 218 short fat glass slide most of all, excellent and easy to control. Anyone who has a problem controlling a slide well should grab one. Thick glass gets the best sound on an electric IMO. I use an anodized aluminum heart slide, another great one to mess with - 3 totally dofferent faces to play off of. Not the greatest tone but different and it cuts real well. I have a Mudslide a buddy gave me, my finger is a little fat for it but they sound pretty fat. I have a thin glass that is all but trash IMO no tone too long and thin to play comfortably (if anyone wants it PM me) then I grabbed this really cool ceramic slide with a skull and a heart (my Pirate slide) they must have seen me coming when they made this. Much like a mudslide but it is sealed on one end where the Mud is open on both.

My main slide guitar is a custom made DeMarino Contour Jr. with a real old P-90 in it. Mad edge but it stays fat and that sucker will just sing if you're hitting it hard enough.

I use a coricidin bottle, but any slide will do. Just keep it parallel. Higher action helps , too. I play the Billy Gibbons " I " shape, mostly. ( a box pattern, shaped like the letter " I " ) :)

i like to play slide. i, for some reason, cant play slide on electric, only acoustic.

I usually play slide in Open-G ala Jimmy Page, but I also use Open-D now and then. What type of slide I like depends on the sound I'm using. If I'm playing clean, I like a glass slide unless I need more sustain or a fuller sound, then I use a dunlop chrome-plated slide. If I'm using a rather heavy sound (In My Time of Dying) I prefer a HEAVY solid brass slide. It's a lot easier to play through a lot of distortion and still be able to control the overtones.

I use many different slides, for different effects. I tend to lean hard towards a Mudslide which is made of porclin(?). It is very dense and rings beautifully. I play more slide acoustic than I do electric. I find electric slide harder to get a good sound. Currently I am using a Cal. Tele to play silde, but am in the process of rebuilding a Harmony H44 (1956). This guitar was made to compete with the Strat back in the day. It has a real cheezy pickup in it and is a solid piece of Mahogony. The neck and body are one piece, so it should be a great slide guitar. As far as acoustic slide goes I have a metal Dobro that I use, as well as wood Dobro. I also use ALL of my acoustic guitars to play slide on for certain things.
I also use many different tunings. G, Gminor, A, Aminor, D, dropped D. Double dropped D, C, Csus4th, Bflat sus2nd. These tunings are all so beautiful, and they challange you as a musician!
As far as players go..... Ry Cooder is Amazing , of cousre I listen to much Duane, I like Leroy Parnell a lot also. Sonny Landreth is Scary good! Andres Osbourne, just to name a few. Living here in NY we have a guy right here on LI by the name of Howard Emerson that is pretty incredible also. He was my slide teacher!!

I'm a big slide player. I use glass slides from Dunlop. I'm a big fan of John Felty from Jupiter Coyote, as well as Ry Cooder, Duane Allman, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes.

I use a brass slide on acoustics and a Pyrex glass for electric.
But I am deeply out of practise and I usually just play in normal tuning on the electric, while on the acoustic I tune in alot of open chords..lotsa fun.

I love slide. I played it more in the mid 90's, when I was playing in bluesrock
bands, but still whip out the Dobro once in awhile. A few years ago,
I had a Johnson rosevine inlay dobro, which I used a lot. It really is the best
brassbody Dobro clone you can get for the money.

Anyway, a roomate allowed it to get stolen by some loose aquaintance, so I forced him to pay me for it. I never found another just like it till I stumbled on a guy who called me about an Am Std strat I had for sale. He happened to have a mint one exactly like my well used older one. I didn't hesitate to trade. Soon, this one will look as worn as my original one.
Oh yeah, and I use my pinky, so the slides I like best are the Big Heart
colored glass ones with a rounded end. I also like the Big Heart ceramic
white one's with the flames painted on.

Pink Floyd have some classic slide lines... Gilmour is the master.

His dvd, on 'Shine on you crazy diamond pt2', he plays a massive slide intro... with heavy assed distorsion! Amazing!
