Slug vs el Diablo

Hey all I came across a schecter blackjack for stupid cheap recently. I've been interested to try both the slug and the el Diablo, but with the lack of audio sples I can't quite figure out the character of either puppy. I play a mix of thrash death doom black metal and industrial. Also what would you use in the neck with a slug in the bridge? I feel like the drop in output would make the guitar sound broken.

Slug Neck or Black Winter Neck work with Slug Bridge.

Slug is thick and massive, but still cuts. Think tons of mids, plenty of bass and highs. Don't let 48k fool you. While hotter than any other pickup I have played, It is not as massive an output increase as you might suspect.

The El Diablo is a cousin of the JB IMO. It is hot, and full of harmonics. Very dense and harmonically rich.

For thrash, death and black metal I would go El Diablo. For Doom, Slug. Slug inspires playing black sabbath. Slug's cleans are thumping with authority. Slug is a unique pickup which I would describe as having to be experienced to get.

If I were to tell you what MJ used as a neck humbucker to be paired with a Slug you wouldn't beleive me so I'll post a pic:
This is a pic of my first encounter with a Slug, yeah the resistance is 47.7, and yeah the neck pup is an el Diablo. MJ had sent it to one of her clinitians and he asked me to install them, he's not a metal player, I'll search for one of his vids and post it.

Here is tha Slug bridge, el Diablo neck, and what's being played is not metal. http://youtu.be/cRPx-s_7Jmo

I installed those pups myself so I'm sure of what I' telling you, jus re-installed those same pups (by his request) into another ax. I was surprised to see a Diablo in the neck. I was surprised that it sounded good and clear there and did not overpower the bridge. I was surprised to see the resistance in that Slug.

Personally I prefer the El Diablo sound (in the bridge) over the Slug, I have a guitar with one, but both are great and that's just my opinion and let me tell you that El Diablo is so good it even sounds good in the neck.

That's exactly what I was thinking!

Slime, yeah, that would work. The power of the Slug, the top end of the Dime.

Re: Slug vs el Diablo

Yeah. Tune a semi-tone lower than normal and let the pickup pull them in tune

Just don't get near a mic stand.
