Good morning,

Im trying to update my JT-RES resonator guitar (http://www.jayturser.com/products/bluegrass/jt-res.php) with a SM-2n Custom Mini-Humbkr. The original pickup have only two wires, a white one connected to the mix control and shield-wire wire connected to back of the mix control. This guitar have Volume, tone & mix controls, humbucker and Piezo bridge pickup. Problem here is to replace the original humbucker pickup with SM-2n, because SM-2n have 4 wires.

Somebody can help me with this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Re: SM-2n on a JT-RES Resonator guitar

You would solder the red & white wires together, and tape them off...this leaves green & bare as your ground, and black as the hot.

Solder the red and white wires together and tape off. You don’t need them. The black is the hot wire and the green and bare wire ground are soldered to the back of pot if single volume and no tone. The green is your negative wire. Check the SD wiring diagrams for more info. You would use all four wires if you were coil splitting. Otherwise you only need the black and green wires and the ground wire. Good luck.

Re: SM-2n on a JT-RES Resonator guitar

thank you for both answers!

currently the original neck humbucker is solded to the mix control, this guitar have a volume, mix control and tone pots. so based in both answers i must solder the sm-2n to the same mix control?

Well, you are only replacing what is already there, so if what is going to the mix control is 'hot' and the other wire is going to ground, solder the Duncan's black wire to the mix control and the green & bare to ground.

Great, thank you for your help! I will try that.
