SM-3 Question

Hi all, does anyone have any experience with the SM-3 mini hums? I recently bought a strat from the 920D custom shop with three of these and it came with the pickups not centered. If these are blade style under the covers (are they?) then I can imagine that the centering doesn't matter much as there won't be any pole pieces under the strings anyway. The one questionable thing is the bass E string which seams to be lower output than the others but this could be due to the response of the pickup I suppose. I asked the maker for another pickguard but it had the same problem. I didn't notice this until I had the guitar for a while so I'm more or less stuck with it and am wondering if centering them will have much impact.

Re: SM-3 Question

I have SM1s and 2s and Antiquities in other guitars. I think better alignment might help a little bit.

So when it's not plugged in, if you play it acoustically all the strings are even and strong but then the balance is different when plugged in? (Just checking the guitar doesn't have a general problem with the low E string.)

Another thought might be searching for different saddles? I recall I went through a few sets of saddles on one of my strats because one set was offset, another was vintage width and another was narrow/import spacing. (Vintage didn't fit since it was MIM, but the existence of offset ones was interesting)

Re: SM-3 Question

It all sounds good acoustically. It has Babicz saddles. they appear uniform, and, I've confirmed the pickguard is off with a ruler. Any idea where I could buy a 3 hole mini hum pickguard?
