It'll probably sound a little brighter all things being equal. I prefer a 57 on a cab but have used 58's in a pinch for gigs. Never had a problem...I just mic the speaker about 3/4 of an inch more off to the side to help tame the high end.
I have been using my 58 on a v30 in my 4x12 to record a bunch of clips for comparing stuff. I really like it. I know I am not supposed to but whatever. I think I may be getting a little too much bass due to it though?
watch out for a conflict of interest between the frequencies spiked on a 58, & the frequencies u want to clear out 'a little' from a gtr's sound in order to make room for the vocals.
That is what Trower uses. A 58 a few feet back. I prefer it to a 57 myself. I don't have to fight so much with precise placement. As of late all I use are old Radio Shack PZMs. Really love how they are capturing what I am hearing.

Yeah??? I've got one of those sitting in my basement that I haven't used in sixteen years! I have to try it. The best mic I've used so far to match what's coming out of the amp is the Sennheiser MD 421 but I've still got to track at least twice to get a full sound. Or at least the sound I like, LOL.
I've used the 58 for guitar. Depends on what speaker is in the cab though. My little combo sounds great with it but my 4x12 sounds better with other mics.
