small amp suggestions??

i may be in the market for a small, cheap combo amp. here's my requirements:

1. 12 inch speaker
2. 30-50 Watts
3. 2 channels
4. effects loop
5. reverb preferred

again, cheap is the key factor. so solid state would be it. I play rock and a little metal. Heavy enough to handle deftones and not much more.

thanks

Re: small amp suggestions??

You would be able to pick up a used peavey classic 30 for pretty cheap id say. And thats a 30watt 12" tube combo which as a lot of people say is pretty nice for the money.

Re: small amp suggestions??

As far as solid state goes the roland cube stuff is pretty nice, and fender probably has some alright stuff but i havent looked at solid state stuff in a while.

Check out the peavey classic 30's man, well worth a look or ten :D

Re: small amp suggestions??

the peavey classic 30 is a tad too expensive for what i'm looking for. i will check out the roland stuff. thanks. anyone else wanna take a stab at this one?

Re: small amp suggestions??

check out Tech 21! I ordered a TM 10 3 weeks ago (hasn't got it yet :yell: ). I tried the owner of the store's amp, it just blew me away, nothing negative about the amp!

For your "requirements", try the Tech 21 TM60 amp, 1x12, 2 channel, effects loop, reverb, try it if you get the chance!

Re: small amp suggestions??

fender champion 30's have awsome clean tones... clean/blues... but i don't think it's really for hard rock/metal.... in ur pricerange too.

Re: small amp suggestions??

Tech 21 makes solid stuff and it'll be far better than most things in its price range.

The Roland MicroCube is a neat little thing, but I wouldn't call it a tone monster. Also, if you could find a Peavey, that's a good, cheap little amp, just not as versatile as the Tech 21 IMHO.

Re: small amp suggestions??

If you can afford a tech21 they will probably suit you quite nicely, ive heard nothing but good things about them

Re: small amp suggestions??

i highly recommend the tech 21 as well...i have the 120 and it rocks!!!

also...the Roland cube series are great little amps especially for the MONEY!!!

Re: small amp suggestions??

Check out the Electar amps at musicyo.com. I hear good things about them.

Re: small amp suggestions??

Im sure you can find the peavey under $300 used. I picked up my classic 50 for $350 used, so if you look hard enough, a cheaper classic 30 can be found. I highly recomend any amp in the classic series, the 50 212 and 410 being my favorites.

Re: small amp suggestions??

At $300 or less I would suggest a Blues Jr. Or a Peavy Classic 30. You can get either one used for $250-$275. Both are great little tube amps that are quite versitile.

Re: small amp suggestions??

thanks for all of your help. but all of this has made my decision a tad harder. i'll probably end up with either the roland or the tech 21 ... the peavey is moving closer though.

again, thanks.

Re: small amp suggestions??

I just bought a Roland Cube 30 for my son and I to practise with. It sounds great for a small amp and I reckon it's really good value for money (£154 in the UK).

30 watts, solid state, 10" speaker, clean channel modelled on a JC120, dirty channel has various amp models ranging from classic Fender / Vox / Marshall to a 5150 and a Mesa hi-gain. Do they sound like the real thing? Probably not, but for the money what you've got is a really good palette of useable tones. Digital FX including Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flange, Tremolo and Phaser. Headphone/Recording out, Auxiliary In. It has a big rich sound for such a small amp too. I reckon it's up to small rehearsals / gigs, especially mic'd.

I just have to remember to let my son play it once in a while. :smack:

Re: small amp suggestions??

LOL...that amp is on my next to buy list...great review Simon...!!!

Re: small amp suggestions??

yeah...that's what i've been thinking...and it's not much more used than the microcube...

there's definitely one of those in my future...i was wanting one anyways...now i have the perfect reason.... :smack: :laugh2: :smack:

Re: small amp suggestions??

that is a great review simon. i think you have convinced me ... now i just need to get rid of my crate half stack.

to those who don't know ....
YOU ONLY NEED ONE SPEAKER TO PLAY LIVE!!!

if your amp cant handle the loudness, you will probably be mic'ed up. i rarely played a gig without my half stack mic'ed ... even in small rooms.
