Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Do you have any recommendation for a device similar to Zoom R16 or R24.

I really like R24's:

- 8 channels
- 6 XLR's with 48V phantom
- battery operated (AA)

So, something similar, but maybe even without LCD and recorder part?
Thin, lightweight, compact, battery operated, cheap mixer.

I don't really care about durability, cause the device wouldn't be abused. Mainly for home use.

Boss has some good doodads like that. I think they're the BR series...BR 800?

Tascam has a positively tiny DP 008.

Personally, I was really digging the R16. I like the velocity sensitive pads for MIDI input on it.

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Yeah, I forgot about Tascam DP 008. It seems nice, but I don't need the whole bottom part (beneath track1-track8 labels) and on the other hand need more channles.
As I understand it has only 2 separate input channels (channel A and B)?

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

gonna be honest; R24 is awesome. 8 inputs on a recorder will always have a certain amount of gadgets strapped to it as it's upmarket from the truly tiny portable ones.

Why settle for hamburger when you're looking for a steak.

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Are you using this for recording or mixing?
Do you need all those, or any, mic pres?

If not, check out the Cymatic Audio LR16

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Just for mixing. From there we go into laptop.
We're recording live sessions of various instrumental, classical, experimental bands. About 4-6 microphones. Lets say at least 2 on 48V.

Tascam would be great if it could fully utilize all 4 inputs on the back. Two more TR inputs, and I wouldn't be starting this thread :) It also fits in the backpack no problem.

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

You could always buy multiple little ones. (shrug)

Or a couple Zoom h4s. The H6 has up to 6 mono inputs at a time. Dunno about phantom power though.

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Considering your previous post, I'd probably be checking R24 right now, but they don't have it anywhere near this part of Europe, so since we'll probably be ordering something from abroad I'm looking for couple of more suggestions.

We really don't need the recorder part, since we're already taking laptop to the locations, and feeding it with both audio/video.

My friend and I are carrying all that AV equipment and tripods, so I was hoping to locate a device that would have minimal size and weight, and maximum portability.

So far, R24 fits the best.

Re: Small portable multi-channel mixer?

Hate to say it, but it does. I remembered Fostex and Tascam for names to look up, but only Tascam has a similar track count machine and it's much bulkier. Behringer, Nady and Samson didn't have ANYTHING. It looks like you've got the proper tool, but no access to it. Do you have any friends outside of north nowherestan (or wherever you live) who'll buy for you and send it to you?
