Ever since I tried on the Twin model on the POD, I just knew I had to get one for real. I tried the RI 85W version at the local Sound Control and WOW... Friggin' amazing amplifier even at low volume. Best clean tones I've ever heard.

Now what I'd really love would be a similar clean sound voicing, but as you increase the drive that CAN overdrive.

Also I have a couple of questions... What are the differences between blackface, silverface and all? And why so many 'deluxe' or 'reverb' or 'twin' amplifiers? I just have no idea which are which :(

So yeah if anyone knows a small Twin like amp, shoot. Cheap is better of course. :D

EDIT: Twin REVERB is the one I mean haha sorry...

The "low power" Twin was a Tweed circut and sounds NOTHING like a BF/SF Twin at all.

Infact nothing really sounds like another Twin...if you want BF style cleans but in a package that will overdrive look into a Super or maybe a Deluxe but remember that clean sound comes from having 85 watts of power...having an amp that will overdrive only comes from lower power amps so what you are asking for is something that you will only get so close to. You could also look into a Pro...they have not reissued the Pro but it 45 or so watts in a 2x12 set up.

Or just get a Twin with an OD pedal. The RI BF dont sound too amazing overdriven, compared to like a Tweed or a Marshall or most other amps. But the only amp youll get that clean with is with a Twin Reverb. ID go with like an Electro Harmonix English Muffin Overdrive pedal, thats a sick sounding pedal. Good luck with your decisions.

try a pro reverb..it's a 2x12 50 watt version...very similar to a twin reverb with less wattage!

Good call. A Vibrolux Reverb would be a good choice too. Or even smaller would be the 22 watt Deluxe Reverb. Thanks! Lew

Same preamp and tone stack as the Twin except no middle tone control.

When Eric Johnson started getting tinitus he switched from using Twins to Deluxe Reverbs.

The Twin uses four 6L6 tubes and the DR uses two 6V6 tubes in the output section.

They are similar, but the Twin is 80-100 watts and that does sound alot cleaner and tremendously louder than 22 watts.

I had a 65 Deluxe reverb and a 67 Twin reverb and I actually liked the tone of the DR better. Sounded MEAN with a Rat distortion as well.

The Pro Reverb, with beefy speakers, good clean tubes (7581A), and maybe the Bassman OT swap, is what I've been using when I need a Twin kinda thing (sold mine a while ago)...pretty close unless you need the really big clean volume. The 'normal' channel is set up more like a tweed tonestack (breakup) and the 'vibrato' side is BF Buckaroo clean...like having two amps.

The Bassman output tranny is similar to a Super Reverb tranny. I did that to my Pro Reverb but it made it louder and cleaner than I wanted so I put the smaller stock tranny back in. Lew

How much would a decent Deluxe Reverb run me? I'll check on the reissues side but these are usually way too much :( The amp is huge too isn't it?

Im not sur eabout the prices over there and im not sure what the exchange rate is either but a used Deluxe reverb reissue can be had over here for around $600 to $700 bucks.

As for the size they are not real big at all...they are a single 12 combo

Which Bassman?

BTW...you do relize that the only way to get these amps to crunch is to turn them up...tey have no gain control or master volume...

I... don't know which :( Meh. I have no idea. Which are the most sought after? Or those after whom Jim Marshall designed the Bluesbreaker I guess. I just love this very raw sound you get out of them.

And yeah I do realize. They's just so much mojo from these amps hehe... I tried that Twin Reissue with a Gibson LP double cut special with P90s and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get even the smallest crush out of it. The clean tone and expression of the amp was fantastic though.

Ah... meh. What are the usual differences between silver, black and tweed?
My local shop have a silverface twin. I'll ask to try it out.

The bassman that has the raw crunchy tone is a Tweed...thats the one to have but they cost big money.

As for the differences between tweed and Silverface, Blackface they best thing to do is to jump online and read as much as you can find about vintage Fender amps...there are also Blond and brown tolex as well.

I could type a hundred pages for you to read and still not cover it all...
