Smokeing Hemp?

Anyone using the very pricy Tone-Tubby Hempcone Speakers? What about anyone using the Eminence Hempcone speakers? Eminence makes two hempcone Speakers..The 10" is the "Lil Buddy" and the 12" is the "Rajin Cajun".The sound clips sound very organic-very much suited to an ash Tele/Strat. to make the best of that Twang.I had 10" "Lil Buddy" but it blew, no reflection on its' build qaulity i hope. I think I just had an amp problem.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

Well, the 12 is NOT a Rajin Cajin, in fact a RC is another 10 inch speaker Eminence makes, the 12 inch speaker with a hemp cons is the Can Rex...

Anyway...those cones are made for Eminence by Tone Tubby, just FWIW...

I have tried the TT speakers both the alnico and the ceramic, I like them alright but so far I haven't bought one so I guess that says a little something. They take a VERY long time to break in but again they are very cool speakers with a great tone.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

Yes, thanks. The 12" is most definitly the Cannabis Rex! Thank you. Clips on the Eminence site sound very promising!I had though that Tone Tubby made those cones, but wasnt positive. Thanks again.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

I got them to sound decent on one amp only....
Find them to be too dificult to use....
Tried some that where "broken" in...did not like those very much either...I am sticking to me old Celestions.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

Funny you say it like that Rid...

I've tried them a few times in various amps and while I found them to have a good sound it just wasn't a tone I was used to hearing...I guess all my benchmark tones come from trad paper cone speakers...

I have to say again, it wasn't a sound I didn't like but it wasn;t a sound that I'd spend that kind of money to have for sure...

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

From the sound samples I have heard, they sound warm and organic, but they don't sound very high fidelity.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

I've got the Can Rex with a G12H30 in a HW Bassman combo. It mixes very well with the Celestion--as a matter of fact it gave me the sound I wanted from the amp but by itself.....not sure. Let's just say that when recording I always mic the G12H30. It layers great though, if that makes sense.

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

ive tried the tone tubbys and they are good but they dont sound the same as a celestion. as far as i know the original ones were modded blues with hemp cones. i think they keep making the cone thinner and lighter. the old ones seemed darker and slower to respond so they worked better with lots of power. the newer one i heard sounded really nice. i didnt a/b it against anything else but it sounded good to me.

i have a cannabis rex and it has some of the same smokey quality. big warm sound but maybe without as crisp an edge as a paper cone but i think it sounds great. they take forever, and i mean forever to break in well. i use my stereo method and it still takes a while. at least ten times as long as my celestion gold. i wouldnt put the rex in a dark amp but in a blackface fender i think they sound great. im trying to decide if the rex or the gold will stay in my bf dr

Re: Smokeing Hemp?

I had one in a Crate amp... The idea is to drive them so hard the audience gets baked off of it...

The manufacturers were like "I don't know about the sound... but we sure enjoy making them"

=P
