So, adding a unit to my Pod Go?

So, I LOVE my Pod Go. Between a dedicated Amp/Cab block, and dedicated Wah/Volume blocks, and a dedicated EQ (that I usually use as a solo boost +5Db) I get to throw four other pedals in anywhere I want.

Honestly that gets me through the day. And with a Delay, Chorus, and Reverb I get through 90% of a set, with a couple of additional special presents for odd stuff or a particular songs (Patches for Bass, Guitar Synth pedal, A couple of out there tunes). Really works great with about 8 total patches that I use in Pedal mode. And I have barely started messing with Snapshots.

But I'm thinking to myself....EVERY patch has a dedicated "loop" patch in it, for an amp effects loop/external pedals addition. I was thinking....

1. Add my Zoom G3N to the loop. That thing has 24 banks of 3 patches with up to 7 effects each! The guitar models are meh, but the effects ROCK. For example - I could throw a sporty compressor on the Zoom, and leave it on all the time for some cool production at the end of a chain, always.

2. Get a Line 6 DL 4 MKII - because a) They are Uber-cool and who doesn't want tone and b) I could have 6 delays at my feet ALL the time! I'd never use a delay in a patch. I could have my little crunch delay, my main solo delay, a VH slap delay, a long epic solo delay, a special effect delay etc always right there.

3. Get something like a Line 6 M5 or M9, just to add that "One more patch option....)

Am I defeating my own purpose here? Or would any of these be super cool for live use? Do I need to calm down and just use what I need? Am I going down a road to getting a mega board, or should I???

I have tried adding a delay pedal to the effects loop my MX5 and I was less than happy with the results. Now I didnt spend any time messing with the settings, etc but it just wasnt working well. The Pod Go may work better.

If I recall, it sounds like a really loud delay in front of an amp. Try it and see what happens

Is there a pedal you really like that the Line 6 can't at least hack a reasonable facsimile of? Or something super fun or full of mojo that it would just make you feel good to have on tap? And do you like doing extra stuff with your feet?

Ask yourself if you are genuinely lacking in functionality or tone. Try to keep your live setup as simple as possible. You do not want to fumble around with an extra looped effect on a dark stage if you do not have to. If you need something for a song, go for it, but don't do it because it is cool. 99.9% of the audience won't even recognize if you are using a compressor.

I say either the DL4 II or the M9. I have both, and both are fantastic. The new DL4 is everything the old one was but smaller and with a lot more functions. The M9 will allow you to have 3 effects at any time, with access to 3 more.

A couple of notes:

1. Hsb: I can place the loop anywhere in the chain I choose; Before amp, between amp and cab, after cab, in between other effects after cab - wherever

2. Bruce: I think it would actually simplify. The majority of my stepping is to change delay settings. If I went with a delay. But no - I am really not missing any functionality at all. Usability might be improved a touch. But only a little. It would increase setup time too. And add a potential point of failure and stage clutter.

3: Dave: So you are saying I should swing on up there, and borrow them to try it out????

To be honest, if I did add a box, I'd be able to basically do a show with one patch! LOL. 50 amps and I'm using a JCM 800 w/ a an SD-1 for all of it except a couple of tunes!

FYI - just made a killer VH1 and YJM patch last night. I have to say...staying "zen" makes me work harder.

I can place the loop wherever also, it just always sounds like it was in front of the amp vs in the loop of the amp.

I may have to play with the loop patch on the MX5 and a delay pedal. I got a 3 day weekend ahead of me, I have time.

Oh no - not at all. Just streamlining loading/out/setups. Helps keep the volume down too - or is easier. For most gigs, not all.

Figured out why I wasnt liking adding an fx loop the MX5, it gives a 12-15db boost which was blowing out the sound. Was playing with it this morn and figured out I had to adjust the output in the fx loop

I have my reverb in the loop of my stomp and the compressor before. Reverbs hogs DSP and the compressor has basic knobs that I appreciate having outside. I would go for either the M9 or DL4 in your case.

Fun fact, the reason why I started using a compressor is because in the 90s after my first time using one in a concert a friend came and said. “I don’t know what it was but today you sounded more professional”. That was the only change I had made so since then it’s been a staple

I think one of the best thing about multis is that you don't have to hook anything else up. At home I chain some multis together (or use a rack looping device, even though my Fractal and HX Effects has a looper), I probably wouldn't go through the trouble of doing it live.

If it were me, I'd only consider either a particular quality effect that I wanted 'always on', or something that I frequently need to kick on and off without having to program a new/separate patch for it in the box (like adding a solo boost or distortion, etc.)

I will say, having put it through a few gigs now....

#1 I like the Wah, but don't love it. The issue is the switch on/off. Yes - it is modeled and I can adjust the feel/sound of it. But overall, I just really miss my Morley Liberty Wah. I might go back to that.

#2 Dammit Beau! Now you got me Jonesing for an M5 just to drop an EQ in there for lead boosts!!! That was a major thing I loved about my Marshall and Mesa. I had a channel/boost switch built into those all the time.

That said - I really think this little thing is fantastic. I really love all the Helix sounds in here. I have been crafting some great tones.

That's a good one, too. I control mine with a special Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Jr. It feels different than a wah pedal, but I am really used to it now.
