So, for a change I went guitar -> cord -> amp...

Re: So, for a change I went guitar -> cord -> amp...

Different amps have a different "feel" to them so it's hard to say with any one amp. With the looseness of a Bogner, a MESA/Boogie Maverick, or a Peavey Classic 30 it's a joy to just simplay play straight up. A Dual Rec, vintage Plexi or Bassman has a much more "immediate" harder feel that i prefer to soften up a bit.

I try to keep my effects to a minimum but even then i still use a good amount of cable. I'm looking into getting a VHT Valvulator to help but as for the tone change... I think there's a certain amount I'm willing to deal with before I deem it unacceptable. With my Rectoverb I don't mind what it does most of the time and i use high-quality cables so that helps.

It works for me. :smoker:

You could use a thinner cable to increase resistance, thus reducing the fidelity and sharpness of the high end...a 'bypassed' wah pedal works well with this as well as those phone cables. I think i might invest in these as my bandmaster is a bit snappy at times.

I've tried a lot of FX and such... eventually they all go back into the drawer or onto ebay. For some reason an amp with a touch of reverb is all I need. Of course, when you play the same three songs over and over for 30 plus years, what else do you need? ;)

At least you have songs, I just play the same lick over and over. My neighbors love me.

I should add something... for LIVE setups I don't mind some compromise. For studio or practice I use only what I need. Like maybe if I'm screwin' around in my room I'll just have my guitar plugged straight into my Rectoverb with a Dan-Echo in the effects loop. When its in a real close up and personal environment like that I just like to enjoy an amps pure tone if it sounds great by itself. Marshall Plexis, Dual Recs... i usually like to feed them a few pedals just to soften up the tone. :) An amp like a Boogie Maverick is just too sweet to let anything get in the way, though. :D

I don't like a dry sound either. I like to kick my amps in the face with my SD pup booster. Right now I'm using one ten foot cable and one 20 foot. My 10' is a fender, and my 20' is a peavey. Both sound better than my Radioshack cables...they crackled a bit.
